Places to Eat Whilst Staying at Westwood

Restaurants

There are many more restaurants than the ones listed below, all of which are within 5 minutes' walk of Westwood; but here are some that we have enjoyed and/or our guests have recommended to us.
Italian cuisine - San Pietro is one of our favourite restaurants. It is an award-winning high-end Italian and please note that it no longer serves pizza. They do offer gluten-free pasta - Booking in advance is essential (it is 5 minutes walk from us)

Tapas cuisine - Tapios has been very popular amongst our guests and is fast becoming one of our favourites, too. The atmosphere is very informal. (3 minutes' walk from Westwood)

Good quality traditional British/continental fare - The Lamplighter Dining Rooms is known for having the 'best Sunday Lunch' for which it had a glowing review from Jay Raynor in the Guardian. We think the Lounge is the nicest room to eat in, so you might want to make that a seating request. ( 5 minutes' walk from Westwood)

Continental / French bistro style - Several of our guests have eaten at Francine's and they really recommended it ; the tables are quite close together so perhaps not for people who like more of their own space. (3 minutes' walk from Westwood)

Italian / mediterranean cuisine - Cafe Italia is hugely popular. They are strictly walk-in so no booking and there is usually a long queue outside - so one for fine weather? (5 mins walk from Westwood)

Speciality fish restaurant - A few of our guests have been and enjoyed it. Their reports were that the food was excellent but that service was perhaps swifter than they would have liked (not enough time to linger between courses). So, good if you are happy to go on somewhere else for a drink afterwards? (2 minutes' walk from Westwood)

Vegetarian / Vegan - Both Fellini's and Zefferelli's restaurants in Ambleside are vegetarian with a good selection of Vegan dishes, too. They are run by the same folk and are attached to cinemas and a jazz bar, offering you the option of meal deals. We had a meal deal at Fellini's and went upstairs to watch an opera relay in a tiny screen. The whole experience was a joy. (about 15 minutes' drive from Westwood in the evening - potentially longer, because of traffic, if travelling during the day)

Now renamed as 'The Tilly', but this app insisted on calling it by its old name of 'The Pig'. Cafe/bar (bistro style?) - We haven't eaten here yet, but my younger (and trendier) friends have recommended it to me in the past. Must be good! Walk-in only - no bookings taken.

Pubs

There are a couple of pubs in Windermere (about 5 minutes' walk away from us) that I haven't listed below because I haven't had recommendations, but you could try them - The Elleray and The Queens ; please let me know what they are like if you do. We always go the The Craft Baa to be honest.
Traditional pub with good food (also a Sunday lunch specialist I believe), which guests have recommended to us. Table booking recommended. (about 20 minutes' walk from Westwood or a 5 minute bus ride or car ride)

Great atmosphere. Superb charcuterie/cheese boards (you may need to order these the day before). Eclectic music - often live at the weekend. Wide range of bottled beers, their own draft and a range of wines. (5 minutes' walk from Westwood)

Take-Away

There are a lot of places in Bowness which certainly used to deliver take-aways. Some of them do struggle with deliveries now because they are a bit short-staffed, so I've just listed the two that we use; both within 5 minutes' walk.
Chinese - This is a big favourite of ours. They get very busy at peak times so best to order early if you don't want a long wait. (5 minutes' walk from Westwood)

Famous for its vegan sausage rolls and all manner of pastry, Greggs serve breakfast barms to take-out which are very acceptable. (A guilty pleasure of mine.) Greggs seems to be closed on Sundays and Mondays currently. (5 minutes' walk from Westwood)

The local taxi drivers seem to use here. They open earlier than most (and close earlier, too). A traditional fry-up caff, or as a reviewer on Tripadviser put it..'A traditional greasy spoon' - and they gave it 5 out of 5 stars!!

'Sainsbugs', as my aunt used to call it, has a bakery section where you can get croissants, pain chocolate, pain-au-raisin, etc. We often pop there for a treat. (3 minutes' walk from Westwood)

Booths cafe is a lovely airy space with views of School Knott. They serve all-day breakfasts and the quality of their food has been great in my experience - which you would expect ftom 'the Waitrose of the North'!
