Stargazing on Cedar Point

There is beautiful stargazing at night on Cedar Point (and especially from our upper deck). The Big Dipper hangs over the house in the summer months; and the stars rising out of the ocean are spectacular (especially great if you can catch the Seven Sisters). The Planet Parade is happening in 2022, and we have spectacular viewing of a number of them: Venus, Saturn, Jupiter, Mars.

Fishing from shore or the water

The fishing is incredible from the jetty at the lighthouse, and along the coastline for Stripers, Bluefish, and Mackerel. You can find plenty of charter services by walking to the town marina. The owner, who has been catching Stripers for more than 30 years, has a 25-foot fishing boat and is becoming a USCG licensed captain (spring 2022). He will be able to take groups of up to 6 people at a time for fishing excursions. Contact him for more details.

Beach rocks - this is the place for beach treasure

For those people who cannot walk on a beach without taking home some beach rocks, driftwood, or sea glass, Scituate's rocky coast is a perfect spot. We seem to find heart-shaped rocks on every walk, and you'll see every color and shape, as well as Massachusett's famed puddingstone rocks. (You will see many baskets and vases full of them at the Mermaid House!) Note there is a sign at the Lighthouse park to not take rocks, but you can have your pick at any of the other beaches.

Our Beautiful Rocky Beaches in Scituate

Scituate is lined with a gorgeous, rocky coastline, and the beaches closest to us--Sand Hills, Lighthouse, and Museum--are tidal dependent and rocky. They are the most sandy at low tide so the locals like to watch the daily tide changes. (Lighthouse is the rockiest of the three but there are always places on the rocks, benches, or great seawall to hang out). We have a tide clock in the kitchen that will keep you up to date! Peggotty is the nearest beach with more sand at high tide --about 2-1/2 miles away (parking pass required so bike, walk, or Uber).
