Sightseeing
This is a rescue centre for orphaned baby elephants, some just a few days old when they arrive and it is a 30 minutes' drive from our apartment. The team here takes care of them and releases them back into the wild when they’re old enough. They have over 30 elephants at a time, each with its own personality—playing or sulking or being mischievous. You can’t help falling in love with them! Most people go to the 11 am public viewing, but if you sponsor an elephant for $50 you can go to a private viewing at 5 pm. It’s a wonderful cause to donate to, and a great experience to see the elephants running back to the keepers after a day in the park to get their milk and be put to bed in their pens.

It’s the only National Park in the world on the edge of a city and a 25-minute drive from our apartment. You get an amazing juxtaposition of the city skyline with lions, rhinos and other wild animals. You can either self-drive or hire a driver if you call in advance. The most important tip is to not get out of the car when you’re drinking! There are wild predators in the park. Make sure you pick up a map at the entrance and head toward the hippo pool for sunset.

Brew Bistro creates their own draught beer, so be sure to try a few different local concoctions once you arrive. The funky dark interior always has a good vibe, and there's a breezy balcony too.
