Portara is the huge marble gate of a hundred-square-foot temple that began to be built in the 6th century BC. century, probably in honor of the god Apollo, on the island of Naxos. It is located on the island of "palaces", or "island of Bacchus", at the northern end of the port of Naxos. According to mythology, on this island Theseus abandoned Ariadne, who was later kidnapped by Dionysus with his entourage. The island was not connected to Naxos until 1919, the year in which the stem that connects it to the rest of the island was built.

Very kind staff! Incredible space a huge very beautifully decorated yard! In the country of Naxos! What we ate also had a special touch like the one from the various handmade jams.The tart with chocolate and strawberry is definitely recommended, as well as the pancake with egg.

Agia Anna is one of the oldest and most populous tourist resorts of Naxos, with important hotel infrastructure and camping (in "Marangas"). It was a gathering place for the "hippies" in the 70's (in reed houses). Gradually, it became the center of maritime tourism of the island, with a small port with warehouses, which used to trade the local potato trade, and which today moor mainly fishing boats.

Services include sun umbrellas and sunbeds, especially by the hotels, taverns, and cafes. A sports center, modernly equipped for all water sports, also operates here.
The beach’s southern edge is dominated by windsurfers, as it is considered to be one of the island’s best surf spots. The fine sand and transparent shallow waters also make Agios Georgios beach highly appropriate for families with young children. Various shops offer a wide variety of goods.
