There are several different hikes to take, from one on an old lava field, to one up a cinder cone, and several others through ranch lands. On Sundays, a park ranger leads different hikes, depending on the calendar.

This park unit is about a 10 minute drive from Ocean View, and is part of an old cattle ranch. On Sundays, a park ranger leads different hikes, depending on the calendar.
The 14 mile drive from our house in Ocean View is very scenic, and once you arrive at South Point, you are as far south as you can go and be part of the U.S. The views out across the ocean from the high cliffs are spectacular. Driving along South Point road there are a few fruit stands and places to sample chocolate and macadamia nuts. For just a day to unwind, take beach chairs, sunscreen and a good book and set up on the cliffs and enjoy the peace and quiet.

South Point Park
South Point RoadThe 14 mile drive from our house in Ocean View is very scenic, and once you arrive at South Point, you are as far south as you can go and be part of the U.S. The views out across the ocean from the high cliffs are spectacular. Driving along South Point road there are a few fruit stands and places to sample chocolate and macadamia nuts. Neighborhoods
Ocean View is a small community with two markets, two gas stations, a pizza place, post office, a local restaurant, food trucks, farmers' markets, a gift shop, hardware store, and several other small local businesses. Houses here are built on lava fields or lush tropical forest areas, all on the side of Mauna Loa, with sweeping views to the ocean. This is a rural community, so there can be chickens and goats, and some off grid homes spread throughout the ten square miles of the development.
