A tapas and sherry bar on Bermondsey Street in London. It’s small and cosy, inspired by the bustling tapas bars around La Boquería market in Barcelona and the traditional tapas bars in the hot, dusty towns and villages of Andalucía. The daily menu depends on what looks good at the market on the day. You’ll see a mix of new dishes as well as old favourites. We maintain a diverse wine and sherry list from both established and small producers of Spain. You will find wines and sherries here that you won’t see anywhere else. Come on down and have a pincho!

Afternoon Tea at Claridge’s Hotel, observing our nation’s culinary heritage for the best part of 150 years. For a century or more, our Executive Chefs have remained faithful to the classic combination of finger sandwiches, scones served warm, and sweet pastries. Our ingredients are painstakingly sourced, skilfully prepared and served fresh each day. The centrepiece of afternoon tea is, of course, the drink itself. Our wonderful tea connoisseur, Henrietta Lovell, has scoured the world to bring us delicious tea from small, little known producers from the four corners of the world. Working hand in hand with our Executive Chef, Martyn Nail.

Bermondsey Street is hardly short of places to eat. Here you can get great Pizza. The proprietors are long-time local artisan bakers from Italian decent, whose ovens are housed right across the road. Naturally, the bakery supplies Via Bermondsey with fresh bread and pastry, and the seriously good dough for their seriously proper pizzas, made according to time-honoured tradition the Neapolitan way. Many will dine here simply for the classic pizza, emerging from the oven with the charred, puffy crust that is the mark of the real Neapolitan pie. However, Via Bermondsey is more distinctly a continental European-influenced eatery with a wide ranging quality offering chalked up on the menu

BOROUGH MARKET is rich with history, but it remains as relevant now as it has ever been. As London’s oldest food market, it has been serving the people of Southwark for 1,000 years, and that extraordinary heritage is an important part of its appeal. But this is not a museum piece—it is a dynamic, ever-changing institution; a participant in the wider debates around what we eat and where it comes from; a place where food is talked about almost as enthusiastically as it is consumed.

A new Italian market has just opened in an old paper factory near Borough, in south London. Mercato Metropolitano has been designed to look like the huge food halls in Turin and Milan — with a more funky, industrial feel — and is packed with regional Italian foods made by artisan producers (mostly actual Italians) on site. The brains behind the project is Andrea Rasca, who is also involved with the world-famous Eataly market which has locations in New York, Rome, Dubai and Tokyo.

Eating in Italy is an experience. It’s a social event not to be rushed; restaurant owners sit, chat, eat and drink with their customers, while families and friends laugh and talk over lovingly prepared dishes. At Emilia’s our pasta recipes are created and cooked in front of you, combining the warmth and welcome of an Italian kitchen with the theatre and passion behind our pasta. Fresh and seasonal ingredients complement the different shapes of pasta that are kneaded, rolled and crafted with the same spirit Simone’s grandmother had sixty years ago

The Mayor, not to be confused with the Lord Mayor of the City of London which is a ceremonial post, is publically elected every four years to manage the governance of Greater London. Next to Borough Market. We believe there has been a church on this site since AD 606. There may well have been a church here even earlier. Southwark Cathedral is the oldest cathedral church building in London, and archaeological evidence shows there was Roman pagan worship here well before that. Significantly, Southwark stands at the oldest crossing point of the tidal Thames at what was the only entrance to the City of London across the river for many centuries. The name is a corruption of ‘St John at Thames’, a reference to the Knights of St John, the former landowners. The parish church of Horselydown was dedicated to St John when it was built in 1728. Horselydown was the medieval name for this area but has now faded from use. This stretch of the shoreline became the core of Bermondsey and Southwark’s ‘larder of London’, dominated by the tea, coffee, spice and dried fruit warehouses of Butler’s Wharf, which were completed in 1873. A century later the last warehouses closed and the area was redeveloped from the mid-1980s, with offices, shops, cafés, bars and restaurants

Many visitors confuse London Bridge with Tower Bridge. The previous London Bridge was built in the 1830s and formerly spanned the River Thames in London, England. It was dismantled in 1967 and relocated to Arizona. The Arizona bridge is a reinforced concrete structure clad in the original masonry of the 1830s bridge, which was purchased by Robert P. McCulloch from the City of London. McCulloch had exterior granite blocks from the original bridge numbered and transported to America to construct the present bridge in Lake Havasu City, a planned community he established in 1964 on the shore of Lake Havasu. You can get a great view down river from here.

Cripplegate was the northern entrance to Londinium’s fort, erected around ad120. The gate was located at what is now the corner of Wood Street and St Alphage Gardens and its name probably derives from the Old English crypel-geat; a cripple was ‘one who can only creep’ – which was the necessary way to duck under the original low arch. An alternative possibility is that it was a corruption of crepel, a burrow. The church of St Giles without Cripplegate was built in 1090, probably on the site of a Saxon predecessor, and rebuilt in 1545 after a fire. There is evidence that William Shakespeare was a parish resident in the late 1590s. Oliver Cromwell was married in St Giles’ Church.

A Latin inscription along the top reads: : ANNO : DECIMO : EDWARDI : SEPTIMI : REGIS : : VICTORIÆ : REGINÆ : CIVES : GRATISSIMI : MDCCCCX : (In the tenth year of King Edward VII, to Queen Victoria, from most grateful citizens, 1910) Also take a look behind the Arch, where you will see a huge WW2 Fortress called The Citadel.
The Mall is a tree-lined royal road leading from Trafalgar Square to Buckingham Palace. The road is closed to traffic on Sundays, public holidays and for ceremonial events, including royal weddings, jubilee celebrations, parades and state visits.

Dean's Yard, Westminster, comprises most of the remaining precincts of the former monastery of Westminster, not occupied by the Abbey buildings. It is known to members of Westminster School as Green, and referred to without an article. It is a large gated quadrangle, closed to public traffic, surrounding a green upon which Westminster School pupils have legal rights to play football (they have some claim to have invented the modern game). Until the seventeenth century the Green was a third of its present size, since to the south stood the Queen's Scholars' dormitory, which was in monastic times the granary: its stones still support Church House.

London's most touristic square got its name from the fancy ruffled shirts - Picadils -made in the neighbourhood long ago. in the late 20th century the square veered toward the gimmicky and tack look - look no further than the gargantuan Ripley's Believe it or Not Museum. But it's trending back. Until a couple of years ago, this was a famously busy traffic circle, with cars and big red buses spinning around the tipsy- but- perfectly balanced Eros statue in the centre. Now-though still packed with cars- it's also a packed people zone. At night when the neon pulses, the 20-foot-high video ads paint the classic Georgian facades in a rainbow of colors. Black cabs honk and tourists crowd.

15 Miles up the Thames from downtown, the 500 year old palace of Henry VIII . Actually it was originally the palace of his minister Cardinal Wolsey. When Wolsey a clever man, realised Henry VIII was experiencing a little palace envy, he gave the mansion to his king. The Tudor Palace was also home to Elizabeth I and Charles I. Sections were updated by Christopher Wren for William and Mary. The stately palace over looks the thames and includes some fine Tudor rooms, including a Great Hall with a magnificent hammer-beam ceiling. The train takes around 2.5 hours from London Waterloo.

Today Whitehall is chocked with traffic, but imagine the effect the broad street must have had to out-of-towners a century ago. In your horse-drawn carriage, you'd clop along the tree-lined boulevard past well dressed lords and ladies, dodging street urchins. Whitehall is now the most important street in Britain, lined with the ministries of finance, treasury and so on. The black ornamental arrowheads topping the iron fences were once colourfully painted. In 1861 Queen Victoria ordered them all painted black when he beloved Prince Albert (The only one who called her Vickie) died.

It is both a breathtaking and an intimate portrait of the lives of a family of Huguenot silk-weavers from 1724 to the dawn of the 20th Century. As you follow their fortunes through the generations, the sights, smells and sounds of the house take you into their lives. The Clink was a prison in Southwark, England, which operated from the 12th century until 1780. The prison served the Liberty of the Clink, a local manor area owned by the Bishop of Winchester rather than by the reigning monarch. As the Liberty owner, the Bishop kept all revenues from the Clink Liberty, and could put people in prison for failing to make their payments. As the Bishop, he could also imprison heretics. The Clink prison was situated next to the Bishop's London-area residence of Winchester Palace. The Clink was possibly the oldest men's prison and probably the oldest women's prison in England.[

In an age of world wars and developing technology, the Royal Naval College provided state of the art training for promising young officers. It would also see thousands of Wrens trained here during World War II. The Navy left in 1997, and the Old Royal Naval College is open for the public to visit.

A secluded gem of a Garden inside the ruins of a Church The Church of St Dunstan was originally built around 1100 and is a Grade I listed building. A new south aisle was added in 1391 and was repaired in 1631. It was severely damaged in 1666 by the Great Fire of London. Rather than being completely built it was patched up. A steeple and tower was added in 1695-1701 by Sir Christopher Wren. The Church was again severely damaged in the Blitz of 1941. Wren's tower and steeple survived the bombing. During the re-organisation of the Anglican Church after World war II it was decided not to rebuild St Dunstan’s.

You're in the heart of London's shopping neighbourhood. This intersection also marks a sort of class divide among London shoppers. (A couple of blocks to the north is the mid-range shopping area Oxford St, which is lined with less-distinguished chains and department stores and seems scruffier than Regent Street) Regent Street with London's high-class, top-dollar shopping outlets. This street has wide sidewalks, fine architecture and royal-family connections. Most of the shops call the Queen their landlord, as she owns most of the land here.

The first pub on the site probably originated during the Wars of the Roses in the 1460s and was called The Hostel. During more peaceful times in 1 533 it became known as The Red Cow, a reference to the bar maid working at the time. The notorious Judge Jeffreys was caught outside the ale house as he tried to escape disguised as a sailor on a collier bound for Hamburg after the Glorious Revolution of 1688; which overthrew King James II. Presiding over the Bloody Assizes after Monmouth’s unsuccessful rebellion against James II, Judge Jeffreys had taken great pleasure in sending hundreds to their execution, and in abusing their attorney’s, which was a costly mistake as he was recognised!
