Food scene

Traditional Kenyan fare -- nyama choma, etc. -- with a full bar, creative juice drinks, music. Very popular with the locals. Right across the street, in fact you look down on it from the balcony.

It's not walking distance, but if you want a proper steak, cooked just right, it's worth the short Uber ride. Despite being in a mall (Village Market), it's a setting so lovely that people frequently come to take selfies there. But yea, steak, and the desserts aren't bad either.

Shopping

Wonderful modern mall, just a quick 5 minute walk from Jabavu Heights. Has pretty much anything you can want: supermarket, pharmacy, hardware, DHL, banks, upscale shops. On Sundays the traveling Maasai market is there, featuring local arts and crafts...if you don't mind haggling, it can be entertaining; it's on the roof, just ask.

This Quickmart is just 5 min away, on Argwings Kodhek Road. It's a smallish supermarket, but they have just about anything you might need, including prepared foods and baked goods. There's other nice shops in the arcade there as well.

The place to get away from it all in the woods, right within the city. Short Uber ride from Kilimani. Trails from 5k to 15k. Biking is allowed and they have bike rentals (but you might consider renting from a bike shop prior to going, as their bikes are not always the best). There are different gates. Main gate is on Limuru Road, which is good for going to the waterfall, though we like the Sigiria gate, it's a bit more wild. 600 Ksh for non-residents (about $6), 300 for children. Go, then read about Wangari Maathai or get her autobiography "Unbowed".
