Food Scene
This is hands-down our favorite local restaurant. Sam and Joanne are wonderful, and they have a really great selection of comfort food that's beautifully made. Their baked goods are also superb--try the "Brownies banned by Bloomberg," which are fudgy and rich and filled with chunks of Butterfinger bar. Our favorite meal is the corned beef sandwich--cooked for three days in brown sugar and Dijon mustard. We call it "meat candy." They're also famous for their signature veggie burgers. Bring your own wine. Closed Tuesdays.

The BEST Mexican food I've had outside California. Seriously. It's in a strip mall but totally worth the drive to Wappingers Falls. Try their Mexican Street tacos, and the margaritas if you have a designated driver.

Sightseeing
There are wonderful tours of the Roosevelt family home. You can also do a tour of Eleanor Roosevelt's private cottage, Valkill, where she stayed after the President's death. It's a cozy little house where she met with world leaders and often served them casual dinners.
Our "secret spot" is the walled garden attached to the yellow house near the front of the FDR property. Inside the house are the offices of the park service rangers. The walled garden was originally designed by Beatrix Farrand in 1905, and was restored by the woman who owned our house, Allelu Kurten, a world-renowned puppeteer. Visit the garden for free from sunrise to dusk--picnic on the terrace!

With the best defensible ridge to the south, this was a safe and secure location for training our revolutionary soldiers and plotting strategy for Washington's eventual victory over the British forces.
