Galphay (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Galphay) is a small traditional village set in the Nidderdale AONB. Perfectly placed for your 'Gateway to the Dales'. Galphay is in an area of outstanding beauty, with immediate access to bridleways, footpaths and fabulous cycling routes, many of which are included in The Tour de Yorkshire
If you like walking, you can start a country walk right from your front door! The Large wooden gates (entrance to Braithwaite Hall) at the top of the road is a public right of way

Kirkby Fisheries are on the Main Street in Kirkby Malzeard and only 2 miles from the house. They specialise in the good old traditional fish and chips but also provide a range of burgers, pizzas and pies.
They have an online menu at https://kirkbyfisheries.business.site and have received some good reviews. we have enjoyed their fish and chips, especially when extended family have visited

Walks
Circular walk via Eavestone lake. We have done this walk a few times now, starting outside the pub in Grantley (although the link is from Grantley hall). It does take a good couple of hours or more but well worth the exercise. How Stean Gorge is a limestone gorge in Nidderdale in North Yorkshire, England. It forms a unit of the Upper Nidderdale Site of Special Scientific Interest. The gorge lies between the villages of Stean and Lofthouse and extends for about a kilometre along the course of How Stean Beck, a tributary of the River Nidd.
