There is a parking lot at the trail head to allow easy parking, and then join up with the Appalachian Trail or walk the wider fire road up to McAfee Knob, one of the most picturesque places on the entire Appalachian Trail. The hike is about 4 miles each way, take some snacks and plenty of water. The trail is mostly shaded during the day.

Gorgeous hike to a waterfall with water streaming over moss covered rocks (Wigwam Falls). Get some amazing photos at the Irish Creek Railroad, long abandoned since 1939. Located at mile post 34.4 on the Blue Ridge Parkway, this is a great easier hike. https://www.nps.gov/places/yankee-horse-ridge.htm
