Sightseeing
This is a great day trip from our cabin. Basically a self guided tour of the bison range with lots of other wildlife to see as well. My favorite is to watch the big bull elk eating moss out of the stream on warm days. Deer and antelope are usually seen there too.

Not to be confused with Lake McDonald in Glacier, This lake is less than 10 minutes from the cabin. Beautiful clear blue water lake nestled in the valley of three mountains. Reminds me of lakes in Alaska. Tribal use permit is required if you intend to recreate there.

McDonald Lake
Not to be confused with Lake McDonald in Glacier, This lake is less than 10 minutes from the cabin. Beautiful clear blue water lake nestled in the valley of three mountains. Reminds me of lakes in Alaska. Tribal use permit is required if you intend to recreate there.
The Mission range is an undiscovered jewel in the state. Many many people drive by on their way to Glacier or Flathead, but few take the time to enjoy this treasure. Many excellent trails, lakes, and wildlife viewing await. This is Tribal Wilderness and you must purchase usage permits from the tribe to recreate here but the quick access (from the cabin) and undisturbed nature await those who take the time. This is only a valley away from the world acclaimed Bob Marshall Wilderness area so the scenery is pretty much the same.

St. Marys Lake is located east of St Ignatius. This is another clear mountain lake with a campground. Easy access by car. This is tribal land so usage permit is required.

Twin lakes are two small connected lakes that are a little farther east of St. Marys lake. These are tucked into forest so it can be a real nice spot on a warm summer day.

Food scene
The restaurant has, in my opinion, the best ever dining room view anywhere. It overlooks a pond with the majestic Missions in the background. Get a window seat and watch the turtles fight for a sunny spot.

If you are hungry, this spot will take care of that appetite. Western décor, friendly service and generous portions are this restaurants staples. A local favorite for many years.
