Since about 1900, Bergen has been an artists' village that attracts many painters, writers and architects. The Museum Kranenburgh in Bergen shows, among other things, a collection of works of art from this Bergen School. The Park Meerwijk residential area was built between 1915 and 1918 entirely in the style of the Amsterdam School. Prominent artists have lived on the Buerweg. In the summer months there are art markets around the Ruïnekerk on Thursdays and Fridays, there are music festivals (the Holland Music Sessions in August, Jazz & Sail in the first weekend of September), and the Kunst10daagse, which attracts tens of thousands of visitors every year in October.

The dune village Schoorl has been known as a tourist village since the end of the nineteenth century. In many backyards, houses were built as early as the early 20th century that could be rented out in the summer, and today there are several holiday parks and hotels. In Schoorl, 19th-century farmhouses and workers' houses as well as beautiful villas from the early 20th century are on the monument list. The Spannenburg villa from 1908 is a rare example of Art Nouveau architecture, of which both the exterior and interior have been immaculately preserved

Buurten

Hargen aan Zee is a seaside resort in the north of the municipality of Bergen in the Dutch province of North Holland. In fact, it is not a village, but only consists of a large parking lot in the dunes and a beach tent. The only access road leads to the more northerly Camperduin. The seaside resort was built in the early 1970s. The name Hargen aan Zee was probably chosen because of the name of the original path to it, the Hargerzeeweg. Hargen aan Zee is annually dedicated to sports, games and entertainment, because the first weekend of July HargenAanSail takes place [1]. Water sports competitions are held at sea, on the beach there are hundreds of beach volleyball players, football players, volleyball players and Frisbee players. There is a large party tent in the car park where music is played for all ages.

Bezienswaardigheden

Schoorl aan Zee is a seaside resort in the municipality of Bergen in the Dutch province of North Holland. Formally, Schoorl aan Zee largely falls under Schoorl; a part is counted with Greeting. The place is located between Bergen aan Zee and Hargen aan Zee. Because Schoorl aan Zee is flanked in the east (inland) by dune forests of the Boswachterij Schoorl and Schoorlse Duinen, it can only be reached on foot or by bicycle. The site consists exclusively of temporary buildings intended for recreation. At the end of the season, the entire building will be demolished, except for the bicycle shed behind the dune. Schoorl aan Zee is known for the De Kerf nature reserve. In that year an opening was dug in the first row of dunes, so that the seawater could reach the dune valley behind, so that new vegetation could develop in the brackish water.

Climbing in the Schoorlse Duinen Not afraid of climbing and descending a bit? Then climb the Schoorlse Duinen, the highest dune area in the Netherlands at the head of North Holland and plenty of space to get a breath of fresh air. A century ago it was one big sandbox here, now dozens of bird species breed, the most beautiful mushrooms grow and the sunlight plays with thousands of tree leaves. More than 60 kilometers of walking path takes you to the highest dunes, the oldest forests or the drifting dunes. Because a hundred years ago Staatsbosbeheer had the sand captured by planting trees, now some dunes are allowed to drift freely again. Such as at De Kerf, where the North Sea water has free access to the dune valleys behind during spring tide and a north-westerly storm. With result! Thanks to the salty seawater, plants such as samphire, sea rocket and salt marsh grass were able to settle here again. Birds and dune lizards followed in their tracks. For example, the Schoorlse Duinen have been given a beautiful nature reserve.
