Sightseeing

Take a boat from here for a round-trip cruise on the loch or hire bikes at the pier and get off the boat at Stronachlacher for a cycle through some stunning scenery. Bikes hired at the pier travel free on the boat. There's also a cafe and a small gift shop. This is the loch made famous by Sir Walter Scott in his poem The Lady of the Lake.

Ben A'an is our nearest peak and is a very popular walk. A great place to watch the sun set over Loch Katrine. The views from the top are spectacular. It does however, get extremely busy on a fine day so if you plan to climb the hill, we recommend going early or at the end of the day, or travelling by bike. The car park at the foot of the hill is generally full before 9am. There is additional parking nearby at the Ben Venue car park but it too fills up quickly.

Another of our nearby peaks, Ben Venue over looks Loch Achray and Loch Katrine and has fabulous views from the top on a clear day. It is a longer and more strenuous climb than nearby Ben A'an. Even if you don't intend climbing to the top, a walk on Ben Venue is worthwhile as the criss-crossing forest paths offer plenty of variety. As with Ben A'an, this is a popular walk and so the car park can fill up quickly on a fine day. We recommend an early start unless you are travelling by bike.

A must see for anyone interested in history, royal palaces and fortifications. Stirling dominates the transition from Highlands to Lowlands and so has been of great strategic importance in Scotland's story. It has been a medieval stronghold, a royal residence and a modern military base. It has a regular programme of events throughout the year.

Set in scenic Kirkton Glen beside Loch Voil, the church is also the site of Rob Roy MacGregor's grave. Hero or villain depending on your perspective, Rob Roy was undoubtedly a colourful character.

Made famous by the 1959 film 'The 39 Steps', the village tearoom will re-open in spring 2021. Child and dog friendly, it's just a short walk from the house and perfect for coffee and cake. We recommend the take-away pizza. Check the board at the door for opening times.

If swinging through the trees appeals, this is definitely the activity for you. A great day out for active families & groups too. Take the full tree-top challenge or skip the obstacle course in favour of a quick zip-line thrill.

A beautiful loch surrounded by mountains. The private road along the north shore makes an ideal route for walking and cycling. For a quieter walk, try the Primrose Hill route.
