Bring A Couple Pairs of Comfortable Walking Shoes!
There are so many great places to visit for walking and hiking. You will need a good pair or two of comfortable walking shoes or boots.
My favorite brand of walking shoes are Skechers. They are ultra comfortable and I never have to worry about breaking them in or getting blisters.

Safety Tip - Always Let Someone Know Where You Are Going
No matter how short your trip is, always let someone where you are planning on going in the mountains and how long you plan on being away.
I have found a free useful app called Life360 that shares your location real time with other family members or friends. Cell phone coverage in the mountains will be spotty so there will be some lag time but the app will give your family a sense of what route you took.

Take Extra Food, Water, and Clothing With You
#1 Safety Tip - No matter where you are traveling to in the mountains, always take extra food, water, clothing, blankets, and TP with you! Just in case of an emergency situation.

Fuel Up First - Don't Let The Miles Get Away From You
Always fill your tank up with gas before you embark into the mountains. Check your car fluids. There are two gas stations in Shingletown. Reeds Market & Shingletown Store. There is unleaded gas at Lassen Park. (Check with park to confirm) also a gas station in Old Station.

Bring Along Your First Aid Kit
It's always a good idea to pack a small first aid kit in your car. You never know when one of the kiddos or yourself might scrape their knees or elbows out and about.
Tip - Always be prepared for any situation.
