Lewis & Harris Food Recommendations

Our personal reccomendations for eating out spots around Lewis & Harris. These include restaurants, cafes and dining experiences.
The Royal Hotel has 2 options for eating. HS1 is their casual cafe bar. This is walk ins only, so best advice is to turn up early in the season. Offerings include Burgers, Wraps, Fish & Chips and casual dining experience. Boatshed Restaurant specialises in Seafood, with a more a La Carte experience. Two different offerings under one roof, but excellent food options.

An incredible location to have a meal. Food is superb quality and we enjoyed our 1st Wedding Anniversay meal here and will definately be returning. A lot of seafood options, so if seafood and shellfish is your thing, it is worth the driver over.

Usually open Wednesday to Saturday (May - September) this is an incredible dining experience. We celebrated a special birthday at Flavour, and cannot describe how fantastic it was. Offerings can include a 7/8 tasting menu, using locally sourced ingredients. It is an interactive experience where Chris the chef explains every course. Approx 1 hour drive but aboslutely worth it for a treat.

Stop for a stroll on the Bridge to Nowhere constructed in the 1930s when Lord Leverhulme attempted to connect the villages of Ness and Tolsta. The road was never completed but the bridge is still there and it is a great place for walking and spotting wildlife. On your way back to town you can stop to visit Coll Pottery Craft Centre

Trips to St Kilda - if you have the time you must experience this. It is a long day, as the trip departs around 7:30am from Leverburgh( so a 6am start from The Last!) and returning to Leverburgh around 7pm. A truly magical day, that we cannot put into word that will exceute with the justification it deserves. St Kilda is an isolated archipelago situated in the North Atlantic Ocean. It is the UK's only dual UNESCO World Heritage Site and one of only 39 in the world. It is home to nearly 1 millions seabirds including the largest colony of Atlantic puffins. The last islanders were evacuated on 29 August 1930, after the remaining 36 islanders voted to leave as they felt their way of life was no longer sustainable.
