After all these years Caernarfon’s immense strength remains undimmed. A brute of a fortress. Caernarfon Castle’s pumped-up appearance is unashamedly muscle-bound and intimidating. Picking a fight with this massive structure would have been a daunting prospect. By throwing his weight around in stone, King Edward I created what is surely one of the most impressive of Wales’s castles. Worthy of World Heritage status no less.

A peaceful 10-minute stroll through the gate and along the river to the outcrop of trees surrounding the scenic and historic grave of the mythical Gelert. Known as the 'loyal hound', Gelert's legend is told throughout Welsh mythology, and culture.

City/town information
Just a short drive from Caernarfon, the beautiful beach at Dinas Dinlle is well worth a visit. It has free parking nearby and a beach café that serves an excellent Welsh breakfast. Facilities include disabled access, promenade, toilets and a beach shop but you need to bring beach chairs. The beach has extensive golden sands that give way to an area of pebbles near the road.
One of the best things about Dinas Dinlle beach is the wonderful view across the bay to Anglesey and the Llyn Peninsula. Clean, safe and ideal for swimming, the beach has the prestigious Blue Flag Award and is recommended by the Marine Conservation Society for its pristine waters.
The beach has two slipways for speedboats and jet skis. Other popular activities at Dinas Dinlle include snorkelling, bass fishing and windsurfing when conditions are suitable.
The area is a designated Site of Special Scientific interest (SSSI) due to a number of rare birds that live in the area. There are remains of an Iron Age hill fort to the south. Dogs are restricted between May and September.
