There is ample free parking at Rye Harbour. Take a leisurely walk along the coast and pay a visit to the Discovery Centre. Afterwards you can visit the dog friendly pub, William the Conqueror or the cafe before heading into the centre of Rye which is steeped in history and has a host of independent shops, cafes, pubs and restaurants.

Smallhythe Place in Small Hythe, near Tenterden in Kent, is a half-timbered house built in the late 15th or early 16th century and since 1947 cared for by the National Trust. The house was originally called 'Port House' and before the River Rother and the sea receded it served a thriving shipyard: in Old English hythe means "landing place". It was the home of the Victorian actress Ellen Terry from 1928.
