The Summit Store is more than a convenience/grocery store. It's an important community spot in the Summit area of the Santa Cruz Mountains. On weekends, it will be filled with mountain bikers, hikers, tourists and local families, grabbing lunch or hydrating, or getting provisions for the week.
They feature an award winning selection of meats, produce, and support local producers. They carry their own label of special marinades, sauces, and spice mixes. Order a fresh sandwich, or enjoy prepared dishes that are ready to go. Find lots of great local brands of bread, ice cream, juices, desserts, healthy snacks, cheese, and on and on.
Want something to drink? Curtis Cook curates the exceptional beer, wine and spirit selection, and he is glad to make recommendations. They carry most of the renowned local beer and wine makers, including New Bohemia Brewing Co (aka NuBo), the Santa Cruz brewery that we own.
For more comprehensive shopping, go to downtown Los Gatos, but we find most of what we need is at the Summit Store, whether it's for a meal, snack, picnic or a provision you need.

We are part owners/co-founders of New Bohemia Brewing Co., aka NuBo. Opened in 2015, NuBo specializes in craft lagers like those found in Bohemia (Czech Republic), and produces a wide array of beer styles (IPAs, Hefeweizens, Stouts, etc.). Our partner, Dan Satterthwaite, has been brewing for more than 20 years, earning medals nationally statewide and locally for years.
Located in the Pleasure Point neighborhood of Santa Cruz, NuBo is surrounded by many local businesses that have gained widespread notoriety, such as Verve Coffee, Pleasure Pizza and Penny Ice Creamery, as well as the HQ of O'Neill and the showroom of Santa Cruz Stakeboards. It is a short walk to Pleasure Point itself, a renowned surf spot, where you can walk along East Cliff Dr. and visit its beaches.
Housed in a LEED Gold building and powered by solar energy, NuBo has an outdoor beer garden and serves outstanding BBQ dishes (pulled pork, brisket, sausages) and other beer-friendly food.

Sightseeing
We go for regular walks at the Summit Tree Farm. While privately owned, the trails are open to guests, where hiking is easy and the views of the mountains are spectacular. See the ocean on a clear day.

For more serious hikers or mountain bikers, Soquel Demonstration Forest allows deep access to the wilderness in the Santa Cruz Mountains. There are multiple locations to enter, many trails to follow, and you could spend days exploring the back-country. Not recommended for casual strollers, but if a serious hike is your preference, we can show you a few options we like.

If you want to see the full majesty of coastal redwoods, Henry Cowell is a great visit. Within a 10 minute walk of the parking lot near the entrance, you'll be standing under trees that are well over 1,000 years old. Longer hikes take you through old redwood forest, along creeks and vistas.
The entrance is just a few minutes from the mountain town of Felton, which has some great little food spots and mountain shops.
As an aside, there is a redwood tree in our neighborhood, a little off the beaten path, which is nicknamed 'Big Mama'. Estimated to be at least 1,000 years old, it is the oldest living resident on our street.

101 N Big Trees Park RdIf you want to see the full majesty of coastal redwoods, Henry Cowell is a great visit. Within a 10 minute walk of the parking lot near the entrance, you'll be standing under trees that are well over 1,000 years old. Longer hikes take you through old redwood forest, along creeks and vistas.
The entrance is just a few minutes from the mountain town of Felton, which has some great little food spots and mountain shops.
As an aside, there is a redwood tree in our neighborhood, a little off the beaten path, which is nicknamed 'Big Mama'. Estimated to be at least 1,000 years old, it is the oldest living resident on our street.
