2 km return | 45 minutes return The upper falls are a series of small cascades, framed with ferns and dense vegetation. There is a choice of swimming holes at the upper falls and a larger hole at the lower falls. Views of Tauranga and Mount Maunganui from near the carpark look through a gap at the mouth of the valley. Access From Welcome Bay, follow Welcome Bay Road. Kaiate Falls are signposted along Waitao Road after 6.5km. Continue 5km and turn left into Upper Papamoa Road. Te Rerekawau Scenic Reserve is signposted on the left after 1km. From Te Puke, follow Te Puke Quarry Road and Upper Papamoa Road for 9.3km. The track starts from the parking area, which has toilets. Track The track is mostly metalled, even and aided with steps on steeper sections. The main track loops around the falls and interconnects with several link tracks between opposite sides of the loop. From the carpark, bear left, ignoring the first track coming in on the left, which leads to Upper Papamoa Road. Continue bearing left, passing two junctions with tracks to opposite sides of the loop, to the footbridge at the base of the upper falls (7minutes). A track connects to the return side of the loop. Be very careful of the slippery rocks. The descent to the lower falls is quite steep and exits at the base of the falls. The rocks here can be extremely slippery (5minutes). It takes approximately 20 minutes to climb to the carpark, passing the three link tracks. Geology The 10-metre-high lower falls have formed a substantial plunge pool and eaten back the ignimbrite cliffs to form a shaded basin.

WALKING & CYCLING IN MOUNT MAUNGANUI The Mount is a great place to ditch the car and either walk or cycle to wherever you need to go. It's so nice and compact that you can easily walk to any of the local coffee spots, restaurants and bars, as well as some pretty amazing coastal walks. A trip to Mount Maunganui would not be complete without a walk up or around our beloved Mauao. MOTURIKI (LEISURE ISLAND) This small island sits just off Mount Maunganui’s Main Beach. In the past, it’s been a Māori pā, a quarry, a marine aquarium and a tourist attraction called Leisure Island. Now it’s a protected reserve and a great place to enjoy a walk. You won’t find an island more accessible than Moturiki. MAUAO BASE TRACK Mauao is an iconic landmark and traversing its 3.4-kilometres base track is New Zealand’s single most popular walk. Allow 45-minutes and plenty of time to enjoy the crashing ocean waves and views across to Tauranga and Matakana Island. The famous “base track” around Mauao in Mount Maunganui is one of New Zealand’s most popular scenic walks. The 3.4-kilometres route will take you full circle around this extinct volcano and can be walked in either direction – from the white sand beach beside the ocean right around to the sheltered waters of Pilot Bay and vice versa. MAUAO SUMMIT WALK Venture to the top of our most famous landmark. This walk takes about 40-minutes and requires a good level of fitness. Choose from two scenic tracks to reach the 232-metre high summit. The view at the top is worth the effort. You can see Mount Maunganui’s iconic mountain, Mauao, for miles around – and when you’re standing at its summit, the view is even more impressive.

Yatton Park has to be one of the more beautiful parks in Tauranga. With a stunning array of flowers blossoming during spring, the park comes alight showcasing a variety of beautiful colours. Water features, ponds and a stream adds to the already pretty park. Within this park are BBQ’s where you and the family can have a bit of fun and an awesome BBQ. There is plenty of room for the kids to run around and kick a ball. Because of this parks location and natural beauty, it has become a popular place for people to get married. Within Yatton Park also exists a unique collection of exotic and native tree species. Upon which both are a city and nationally significant Arboretum. Since many of the trees were planted around the same time in the same area, they have competed against each other for height over the many years rather than growing outward. So many of these trees are among the tallest of their species in the country. They were planted around 1866. There is a 10-minute loop track through native bush at the back of the park. From the bottom of this loop, the Walkway takes you along the foreshore of the Waimapu Estuary – with extensive views across to Hairini. About 10 minutes from Yatton Park, the Esk Street Walkway runs from the foreshore parallel to Esk Street, taking you back to Fraser Street. It is then just a small walk along Fraser Street back to the entrance of this beautiful Park. https://exploretauranga.co.nz/yatton-park/

Welcome to the PAP House! One of the best Papamoa restaurants and bars. The Locals think of us as their second home, somewhere where they can go for a good time, eat great food and enjoy the company of friends and family in a great atmosphere and that’s exactly what we are all about. Everyone’s welcome at the PAP House so bring the whole family down or just yourself, dogs even too. Order some delicious food from the menu, treat yourself to a few drinks, choose to sit inside or outside in our sunny outdoor area and have a great time. On behalf of the team at PAP House, I can happily say that we can’t wait to see you soon! https://www.paphouse.co.nz/

From Papa Mo's 'Papa Mo’s - where we serve serious fun Everyone knew when Neptune had his serious face on and when he had his fun face on. Presiding over the sea takes a lot of energy. So when we asked him to watch over our landmark establishment, we suggested he lighten things up a bit. Papa Mo’s was born. Serving seriously good quality food and drinks, with a focus on local, and views of our beautiful seas. Papa Mo’s belongs to the Papamoa community. It’s a place where old friends and new can have some serious fun.' https://www.papamos.co.nz/

MORE FASHION, MORE DINING.. NOW OPEN We’re excited to keep you updated on progress. You’ve loved Bayfair for more than 30 years, but you’ve also told us you want us to continue reinventing retail in the Bay so here’s what we are delivering. We’ve expanded with an additional 30+ specialty stores, with a strong focus on the Kiwi and international fashion and lifestyle you love and can now see in the Bay. There’ll be a new seven screen United Cinemas, seating more than 1300 - including 300 recliners, for when you need to put your feet up. This is due to open in early 2020. We’ve also creatied a carefully curated alfresco dining laneway with a diverse range of dining experiences. It is an all weather area so you can make the most of our long, sunny days in summer, or cosy up in winter, with great coffee, craft beer or a bite to eat, day or night. Not to mention dinner and a movie (once they open) will be the perfect cover for your sneaky late night trips to Kmart! We've also opened a bigger and better Countdown, so you can still pop in and grab all the essentials on the way home. On completion of this expansion in 2020, Bayfair will have around 150 stores. As always, Bayfair is still about customer service, sustainability and accessibility, alongside the Bay’s cool urban coastal vibe. And don’t worry, you can still shop, eat and play at Bayfair as much as you usually would throughout the building process - we’ve made sure there’ll be minimal disruptions. https://www.bayfair.co.nz/
