Hiking, hiking, and more hiking. Easy, difficult, short hikes, long hikes, whatever you are in the mood for. You walk less than half a mile and you're surrounded by mountains and cactus and feel like you have left the city. There are trail maps posted outside the door of the apartment.

Every one knows about Nordstrom and Nordstrom's Rack. A lesser-known store is the Last Chance Clearance Center, which is where everything else ends. Again if you have the patience, this is a great place to bargain shop. I know people who travel here just to shop for clothes. There are returns as well as new clothing, and nothing is returnable, so you need to choose well.
