Worth visiting if in Shaftesbury. Reeves are a local bakery chain that make seriously good sourdoughs, among other things. Get loaves sliced in the machine if you want to make toast.

Glorious Medieval architecture. Go to marvel at the best surviving copy of the Magna Carta and to climb the tallest spire in Britain (not for the faint-hearted). Listening to the choir at Evensong is a profoundly spiritual experience.

Parks & Nature
Highest point in Wiltshire. Visit on a clear day for 360 views across Cranbourne Chase. It is sometimes possible to see the Isle of Wight from here, but our favourite bit is the circular wooded copse which emanates wild magical energy. A very good place for kiting.

Bimble across the train line from Wardour towards East Hatch, and (with some help from the locals) you will find 'Flowers of Hatch'. Park next to the signposted field, collect a bucket and secateurs from the shed, then cut as many flowers as you like from the field planted with sweet peas, dahlias, daisies, lupins etc. Pay £5 into the Honesty Box and head home with the biggest bunch of flowers you've ever seen!

Weymouth is a very jolly seaside town. It has a silky sandy beach with fairground rides & Punch & Judy shows. It can get very busy, but it is always a fun day out.

Take a walk to see the newly renovated Sutton Badges, just south of the A30. From house, turn left and follow road up the long slow hill to other end of the village. Turn right at the top onto Lagpond Lane, then turn left down bridleway on the next sharp right-hand bend, which will take you to A30 (just west of Sutton Landrovers Garage). Cross the busy road and continue along bridleway, heading towards the escarpment. You will see the new Sutton Badge on the left, across a field. If you keep walking, upwards and bearing right, you will reach a permissive path which follows the curve of the ridge west. The sunset views are unbelievable. Give yourselves 2 hours for a really decent walk.

A dramatic castle ruin, managed by English Heritage. A fun place to take the kids for a little bit of history. Some of the stone staircases are treacherous, so take care. Great place for a relaxing picnic.

Wilton House is our local stately home. It's a little pricey to visit the House, but the grounds are lovely and the treetop play area will amuse 3-12 year olds for hours.
