City/town information

Despite the many wars and unrest, Lebanon is still the "Switzerland of the East". And its capital Beirut (French: Beyrouth) is still the "Paris of the Middle East", it is a thriving hotspot for shopping, socializing and sightseeing. There's so much to see and so many things to do around, its so hard to get bored!

Byblos is a historic city that I personally love. I urge every tourist to visit the old souks (old market) at least once, and while there pay a visit to the Byblos castle and Saint Charbel's Tomb/Church while you're there! The beaches there are also amazing, and there's so many good places to eat and chill at.

Neighborhoods

This neighborhood is the most iconic in my personal opinion. The old architecture gives it a vibe unique to Lebanon. It is currently the best place to hang out and have good times with friends. It was heavily damaged by the latest explosion in Beirut's port. But it quickly came back to life as it always has! It is not the same with the COVID situation, however it is still definitely an area worth checking out.

"Service" is the cheapest way to get around.

Taxis and Ubers are available everywhere in Beirut. If you're looking to save some cash, the best way to commune for short trips is "service" which is a cheaper version of a taxi. How the local "service" (pronounced ser-vees and not ser-vis) system works: you basically do a quick inquiry to a passing by taxi driver declaring desired location and your offered fee, the driver will either nod with approval, reply with a counter offer or just keep driving and you repeat with the next driver. Buses are great for distant trips, bus stops are nearby. Please ask for even more detailed info!
