Colchester Castle is a few thousand years old & is steeped in history. A Roman Temple originally stood where the Castle sits today. Then there are the stunning Castle gardens, with their beautiful flower displays, some which celebrate certain events & others that show the dead from various wars are not forgotten. You can visit the Castle inside & enjoy the tour then afterwards explore the Castle gardens, from the flower displays, boating lake, goldfish pond to the wildlife area & the play parks. Enjoy a drink, snack or ice cream from the local on site facilities You can even fetch peanuts for the local squirrel population who do enjoy putting on a display for the visitors. Some are extremely take & will take a peanut from your hand. The Castle & it's gardens I highly recommend you visit as there is something for everyone here.

As I previously said under Colchester Castle the gardens here are simply stunning! There is so much to see & do. There are the magnificent flower gardens, where as you walk around you will see from the plaques & information boards the gardens celebrate many various events & things. There is the NHS rainbow garden, which celebrates the work of the doctor's, nurses, care staff, cleaners & many more during the Corona virus. There's also the Military gardens which honour the dead from various wars over the years. Their sacrifice will never be forgotten! There are many other flower garden displays that celebrate & honour other events, as too many to name. There's a few special places within the Castle gardens, like the peaceful goldfish pond, then there's the sensory garden with its water sculpture & then there's the wildlife area, which various birds visit as do the smaller animals like the squirrels. There are 100 different types of tree within the Castle grounds, do check out the notice board in the park. You also have the boating lake where you can take a trip around the lake in a swan boat & you can also see the swans & ducks that live on the lake as well. There is also a bowls area, a golf putting game, a cricket area, as well as an exercise area which has all the exercise equipment you could need As for the younger ones there are the play parks, three of them in fact, all together in one area. There are lots of swings, climbing frames, rides etc to keep the youngsters happy for quite sometime! There are also several places that sell food, drink & ice creams as well as bathroom facilities. Not forgetting there is the Roman Wall that goes through Colchester Castle gardens & is as old as the Castle itself. Lastly there is the River Colne that flows through the Castle grounds as well.....

Clacton on Sea is a must go to if you're in the area for visiting an old, long traditional family seaside town. Many, many years ago most families did not have the money to fly abroad, so it was much cheaper for them to visit the seaside's in the UK, especially ones like Clacton on Sea, Southend, Brighton & the like. For 1 or 2 weeks in the summer, families from London & all over would flock to these seaside towns & enjoy a lovely holiday by the sea. The beaches, the piers, the sea would draw the holidaymakers in there thousands as they still do to this very day. With fresh fish & chips, cockles & whelks, sticks of rock & buckets & spades, the UK seaside towns are busy every summer. Clacton on Sea has a pier of its own, where there are amusements, fair ground rides & cafes. You can also just take a walk along the pier to admire the sea views. I visited here very recently 09/20 where the sun shone, the beach & pier were packed with families enjoying themselves. We had fresh cod & chips from the cafe just outside the pier & followed this up with 99 ice creams, absolutely delicious!! Highly recommend you do visit!
