Sightseeing

When visiting, please take time to wander around Long Crendon itself! Dating from Anglo Saxon times, the picturesque high street of the village has many houses dating from the 16th-19th century. Buildings of particular interest are the Long Crendon Courthouse and St Mary’s Church and the Manor House. The Courthouse is a manorial courthouse which dates from the 15th century and is one of the oldest properties run by the National Trust. St Mary’s Church is a Norman church that dates from the 12th century. The Manor House is located just down Frogmore Lane from the Market Square and it is worth peaking through its arch. In additional to restaurants and cafes, in the village we have a number of shops. If you are looking for flowers for friends you are visiting, please visit the talented florist at Velvet Brown at the Manor Stables. For take away local produce, check out our local butchers in Market Square sells local Long Crendon Wagyu beef and Long Crendon pork. The Farm Shop in the Manor Stables also has local produce and delicious fresh bread. Our local brewery is XT Brewery and it is just down the road in Notley Farm. It is a short drive or you could walk there on the Long Crendon to Chearsley Trail. At the moment the brewery tap room is not open (hopefully soon!) but take away beers are available. http://www.xtbrewing.com

This charming market village has a lot of independent shops ranging from local artisans, independent retailers, boutique clothing shop and great restaurants. On Tuesdays they have a local market and there are pop up events on throughout the year. The town has a great museum to explain the local history. There are also plenty of walking tours of the town exploring the local history and nature and there is even a walking tour for Midsommer Murders location sites. https://www.thametowncouncil.gov.uk/visit-thame/things-to-do/

In nearby Stone is the extraordinary Hartwell House run by the National Trust as a luxury hotel and spa. Why not go for a spa day there? They also host afternoon tea in the grand rooms which makes for a super special occasion. We have never dined there for dinner but everyone says it is pretty good. https://www.hartwell-house.com
