Beaches

The Papagayo beaches are the most famous beaches in Lanzarote. In the south of the island, next to Playa Blanca, just in the middle of a national park, you find seven little bays with beautiful Caribean looking beaches. Each of them is characterized differently: Playa de Afe - pebble beach Playa de Mujeres - the biggest beach of them (400m long) is easy to reach by foot Playa de Pozo - small sister of Playa Mujeres and often well visited Playa de la Cera - a small bay, but with two kiosks next to it Playa Papagayo - the most famous beach, a calm small beach with a restaurant on top of the cliff Playa del Congrio / Playa Puerto del Muelas - these two beaches are more exposed to the wind and therefore more popular for windsurfers Because of their location in the south of the island you will have the best chances for a sunny, warm beach-day, even if its cloudy and cold in the north. How to reach the beach? By car: It is the fastest way, but the road is unpaved and a challenge for the small rental cars. To enter the park by car you need to pay 3/€ per car. With the car you can reach all bays, some have the parking just next to it, for others it needs a small walk from the parking to the beach. By foot: From the Parking of the Hotel Sandos Papagayo beach resort start a walking track to the first beach (about 15 min) From the first to the last beach it is about 45 min walking) By Bus: From Costa Teguise, it is more than 3 hours and two bus changes plus walking from Playa Blanca to the beaches to get to them. So I don't recommend choosing this option. If you still want to go by bus I recommend the moovit app to find the right connection. By Watertaxi: From the Marina Rubicon in Playa Blanca you can also take a water taxi to reach the beaches. They drive several times a day and for 15/€ per person, you will have a nice sea experience on your way to the Papagayo beaches. Don't forget to bring enough food and drinks, because besides the kiosk and restaurant you will have no possibility to buy these things. I also recommend taking a parasol if you want to have some shadow.

The biggest beach with about 6 km length is in the northwest of Lanzarote. This beach is very famous for its surf and kite-surf scene. Because of the wind situation and the strong current in the water, the beach is not recommendable for a swim. But with the beautiful landscape and the impressive Cliffs rising in the background of the beach it is for sure worth it to pass by. If you are interested to try out the fun of surfing on your own, feel free to contact me and I will show you the beauty of that sport. But be aware, it's addicting. ;) https://www.airbnb.com/experiences/1149823
