Oban's ruined castle is definitely worth a little visit. It's a 5 km return walk from the flat - and it has an outside cafe. Great gardens!

Oban's beach for all who like to make a sand castle during their holiday!
You don't want the caravan site - although it has a great fish'n chip van - but the beach in front of it. You can access it by parking either at the caravan site or at Benlora Cafe and walk. At the caravan end there is a nice wee play park. Some really nice dunes.

Sightseeing
This is a trip for folk who love archaeology. Standing stones, cairns, carvings and more... Kilmartin Museum (with nice cafe) is wonderful but currently undergoing redevelopment. May not be open - do check.

Small place to find out about the marine environment and about the ocean research that is being done from Oban. Also has a nice cafe and shop. It's a visitor centre to a research institute but accessible with treasure hunts etc for kids. It is right next to 13th century Dunstaffnage Castle, making it a nice half day destination.

A good hour's drive from Oban but a great destination for a day. It has a visitor goal to learn about the history of prisons and punishments, a castle that is home to the Duke of Argyll with a nice garden, has a small art gallery and a super pub - must visit the George serving food all day.

Outdoory things to do
We take nearly all our own guests here. A great car ride across beautiful rolling hills over the Bridge over the Atlantic to the Island of Seil and on to Ellenabeich. Here you can take a small passenger ferry to the car-free island of Easdale. It's most famous for the slate quarry ponds that play host to the annual stone skimming world championship. Takes about an hour to walk around the island at leisure. There are nice pubs on both sides of the ferry. For adrenaline junkies you can book also a trip on Seafari from Ellenabeich for example to see the Gulf of Corryvreckan and ample wildlife.

Easdale Island

The smoke house has its own wee shop and cafe as well as an exhibition area that explains how they smoke their salmon. We tend to go there once every season as the estate is so changeable and we do love smoked salmon from here.

Take the gondola up the mountain just because! Great views, good walks / skiing etc. But for food in the Fort William area we recommend the Ben Nevis Inn, a hikers inn just at the foot where those hiking up Ben Nevis mostly start from. The hike is hard - you need to be fit to try it.
