Best view of the castle is from Princes St Garden. Its also a great place to picnic on a nice day. The Garden actual used to be the site of a Loch. The Nor Loch was where people would throw there waste over the castle walls, they also used to drown witches in the Loch. Princes St gardens are 10 min walk from apartment

Like Edinburgh Castle this is an ancient Volcanic site. The crag or cliff faces are Salisbury crags and the Hill is Arthur seat. Climb to the top of Arthur Seat for excellent views of the city. Approx 30 min walk from apartment but suggest is visited post visit to Edinburgh castle.

On the surrounds of Arthur Seat sits Holyrood Palace, the Queens official residence in Scotland and famous for Royalty through the ages living here including Mary Queen of Scots. The tours are great and you can still see the blood stained floor of where David Rizzio, Mary's confidant was murdered if you like that kind of thing.

There are many ghost tours of Edinburgh, for us this is the best. Mary King's close was walled in during the times of the plague with many of the residents still living there. Some fascinating history of how people lived in the past.

Probably the most popular area for tourists to dine and drink with many al fresco options if the weather is good. Many old bars with old stories to go with them and you get another view of the castle per above. Its only around a 5 minute walk from the apartments

Our own Morrison St, if you head east and up the hill you will walk into Edinburgh financial district which is very quiet after 6pm. Our tip is to head west down the hill where there are many great restaurants and bars. At Haymarket Bar take a right and head along west maitland st, where there are a great deal more bars and restaurants. You can follow this street all the way to Princes st.
