With the Annandale Way passing through Hightae, it is a bit do, it is a 56 mile (90km) long-distance walking route starting in the hills above Moffat and following the River Annan down to the Solway Estuary at Annan and can be walked either north to south or south to north.

The Mennock Pass is the highest of the three named passes crossing the Lowther Hills. It weaves its way through the beautiful southern uplands from the hamlet of Mennock, just south of Sanquhar, as far as Wanlockhead, Scotland's highest village.
This spectacularly scenic spot is popular with hillwalkers and cyclists alike, but if you're driving, do watch out for the occasional sheep crossing the road!
