From any of the beaches in the area from May to November you can see whales. They are most active from September to November. We have enjoyed the Whale watching cruise run by Moonshadow cruises departing from Nelson Bay.

Fort Scratchley, a former coastal defence installation, is now a museum. It was built in 1882 to defend the city against a possible Russian attack. General Admission to the Fort is Free. Open 10am - 4pm Everyday except Tuesday.
