The Hassan II Mosque (Arabic: مسجد الحسن الثاني‎, French: Grande Mosquée Hassan II) is a mosque in Casablanca, Morocco. It is the largest mosque in Africa, and the 7 th largest in the world. Its minaret is the world's second tallest minaret at 210 metres . Completed in 1993, it was designed by Michel Pinseau and built by Bouygues. The minaret is 60 stories high topped by a laser, the light from which is directed towards Mecca. The mosque stands on a promontory looking out to the Atlantic Ocean; worshippers can pray over the sea but there is no glass floor looking into the sea. The walls are of hand-crafted marble and the roof is retractable. A maximum of 105,000 worshippers can gather together for prayer: 25,000 inside the mosque hall and another 80,000 on the mosque's outside ground.

Habous District Habous, in Arabic, means a common law neighborhood, that is to say, that it's joined with little shops, and each shop keeper is part owner of the buildings, and they're free to do business there. The Habous neighborhood is similar in nature to Casablanca, a little touristy, and you can find good artisan crafts there. Also, there are several souks, spices and snacks like olives, and things like slippers. It's a neighborhood that was constructed during the colonial French period, and now it's a fun place during the day, with a lot of buying and selling. To go toward the center you'll have to take a taxi, which shouldn't cost more than 25 dirhams, or around 2,50 euros. Behind the commercial areas there are some riads, the typical two or three floor residences with interior patios.

Though lacking the medieval magic that characterises many Moroccan medinas, Casablanca’s compact 19th-century example is still worth a wander. You're unlikely to find treasures in its everyday shops (hardware stores, pharmacies and shops selling cheap clothing and shoes predominate), but its whitewashed crooked lanes, occasional tree-shaded square and buzzy local cafes make it a popular route for those walking between downtown Casablanca and the Hassan II Mosque. The most heavily used entrances are through Bab Marrakech on Ave Tahar El Alaoui or through the gate next to the rebuilt clock tower at the northeast corner of Place des Nations Unies. The narrow lanes near these gates are where most shops are found; the rest of the medina remains largely residential. On the north side of the medina, facing the port, you’ll see the last remains of Casablanca’s 18th-century fortifications. Known as the sqala, the bastion offers panoramic views over the sea.

Notre Dame de Lourdes Cathedral is a Catholic Church right in the middle of Casablanca .You should climb the long stairway at least to see the wonderful stained glass windows The open interior is illuminated by stained glass panels (more than 800 square meters, by Gabriel Loire, a master glass blower from Chartres), stunning in their deep colors and modern in design.

A Mosque and a Library! This mosque is located in the upscale district of Anfa. Initially a small mosque was built as an attachment to the summer home of the Prince in 1979. Later on this huge structure was constructed. The current mosque can accommodate around 5,000 worshippers. The basic purpose of a mosque in Islam is to provide a religious and cultural complex. I was very impressed by the library attached to this mosque. It is dedicated to Islamic education and research. The decorations in the mosque are truly exquisite. Non-Muslims are not allowed to enter this mosque.

You can buy from the fresh fish stalls and then have your choice cooked to your specifications at one of the cafes but you need to haggle so speaking French or Arabic will help I prefer just to wander past some of the cafes and ask to see what they have on offer that day - some do have menus with prices displayed so you dont need to worry about being overcharged. Ask upfront how much things cost if you are unsure. The food is great and very cheap - always busy with a lot of locals
