Sightseeing

Plan drive time from our location: 1.5 hours one one way (60 miles). Best time to visit this park to avoid the extreme hot summer weather, large volumes of tourism and mosquitoes is between April to late May. Yosemite National Park is a national park spanning portions of Tuolumne, Mariposa, and Madera counties in Northern California. the park, which is managed by the National Park Service, covers an area of 747,956 square acres and reaches across the western slopes of the Sierra Nevada mountain range. On average, about 4 million people visit Yosemite each year, and most spend the majority of their time in the seven square miles of Yosemite Valley. The closest access to the Yosemite NP is through the "South Gate" access off Highway 41. This interstate can be accessed just west of our address within 10 minutes from our residence. Plan to pack sufficient amount of food, water, and sunscreen. Bug spray might be highly recommended if you plan to travel through this park in early summer as the mosquitos are most prevalent during this period. If you plan to stay for more than one day or plan to do a lot of hiking while you are away from your vehicle, please plan to pack all of your food and trash in secured containers that are exterior of your vehicles as bears are very common in this area. All trash must also be deposited in appropriate bear containers and must be packed out of the park if outside designated hiking or camping areas. Make sure to also pack layered clothing as the weather in this park can change very quickly and the temperatures can range within 30 degrees throughout the day. Most of the park is surrounded by well marked trails and signs and has predominate granite rock outcrops. So make sure to wear proper foot protection with good support. Ask us to borrow our Annual Park Pass to save on the required entrance fee, complimentary during your stay. All we will ask from you in advance, if you choose to borrow our pass, is a fully refundable security deposit to ensure that we will get our pass back safely. This pass is like cash...once it is lost or stolen there is no way we are able to replace it without having to re-purchase another pass for our future guests. Thank you for your understanding.

Want to spend the day visiting the animals? Well, this is the best place to do just that! Fresno Chaffee Zoo is located in Roeding Park in Fresno and covers 39 acres and houses over 190 species of animals. Its attractions include Stingray Bay, Dino Dig, Valley Farm, Sea Lion Cove, African Adventure, and Ross Laird's Winged Wonders Bird Show. The zoo is accredited by the Association of Zoos and Aquariums (AZA) and is a member of the World Association of Zoos and Aquariums (WAZA). This zoo received a local multi-million dollar bond that was passed as a proposition by the citizens of Fresno County several years back. Not only did this proposition keep the Fresno Chaffee Zoo from going bankrupt and possibly disappearing completely, but it provided enough funds for expansive remodeling and major improvements to many of its exhibits. Now the displays are much more dramatic and the animals in captivity have a much larger and more natural habitat to exist. The safari and the sea lion cove happen to be two of the most recent additions to this park that really have transformed it completely. It is something to be proud of that it now exists right in our backyard here in Fresno. Great place to spend the day with family, especially for the kids!
