Our local museum is a must see to learn about Timaru.
Look for the surprisingly modern-looking 'microlight' plane hanging from the rafters. It's a replica of a 'crazy' local man, Richard Pearse, who actually was the FIRST person to create motorised flight in the world! He even beat the Wright Brothers!

Always bring several season's choices of clothes to Timaru!
And be prepared to be changing clothes during the day, in any season! Layers are good!
