Besides the grizzly bear, pack of wolves, mountain lions, grey and red foxes, bobcats, mule deer, porcupine, raccoons, wood bison, fishers, ringtail cat, and coatimundi, another component that makes Big Bear Alpine Zoo unique is it is a wildlife refuge that has been saving wildlife since 1959. It is a wildlife rehabilitation center and sanctuary for injured, orphaned, and endangered alpine species until they can be returned to their natural habitat. The main goal is to always find ways to release rescued animals back to the wild. However, there are times when animals are not able to fend for themselves or they become too dependent on humans.

Big Bear has three snow tubing areas: The Alpine Slide at Magic Mountain, just west of Big Bear Village; Big Bear Snow Play, which is located on the east end of Big Bear Blvd. and Grizzly Ridge in the Basecamp area at Snow Summit Ski Resort. Each snow tubing area has covered Magic Carpet rides with clear tunnels that transport riders with their tubes to the top of the slope. Now with belly up and bum down, just hop on the snow tube and race your friends to the bottom.
Save a little money and experience even more magic when you go snow tubing at night. When the sun goes down, so do the prices. The lights come on, sweeping the slopes with color and an ultra-cool vibe. It is colder at night, so dress for warmth.
When you need to take a break, grab a hot chocolate at the snack bar or pack in a tailgate picnic and feed the whole tribe. All three snow tubing areas have snack bars, picnic tables and restrooms.
