The Beaches
Surin Beach is one of Phuket most beautiful bays. Long gone are the beach clubs and the restaurants, but it looks a lot more lively now. Surin Beach used to be very popular for its wide choice of dining venues and trendy beach clubs. It still is blessed with a large beach of beautiful sand and a fantastic blue sea. The quality of the water and sand always makes it one of the most beautiful beaches on the island. Swimming is excellent during high season (December to April), but the sea can be rough in low season.

Bang Tao Beach (or Bangtao) is one of the longest beaches of Phuket, halfway between the airport and Patong Beach on the west coast of the island. With such beautiful stretch of sand, Bangtao has long been home of the famous Laguna Phuket. This immense complex hosts some of the most luxurious and largest resorts on the island such as Banyan Tree Resort, Dusit Thani Laguna Phuket and Angsana Resort and Outrigger Resort.

Bang Thao Beach

It used to be a very safe beach with only Phuket Fantasea as a highlight, but its popularity exploded with the opening of the new Cafe Del Mar beach club. Kamala is a beautiful long beach with clear waters during high season, featuring a nice amount of beach restaurants and shopping options, several great hotels including some with direct beach access.

Kata Beach is on the west coast of Phuket island and one of the most visited beach after Patong. Kata enjoys a superb sandy bay with an incredibly blue sea and an iconic island standing in the middle of the sea, making excellent sunset photos.

Karon Beach (30-45 min ride & not recommend for walk) from apartment.
Karon is one of the longest beach in Phuket and the third in beach popularity. It enjoys a vast stretch of white sand with a decent choice of dining and nightlife but never seems to draw crowds of tourists (which might be a good thing). The beach is also known to make a fun squishy sound when walking on the sand.

Nai Yang Beach (30 min ride & not recommend for walk) from apartment.
Nai Yang Beach is one of those out of the beaten track beaches little known from first-time visitors, but very popular with returning travellers. Beautiful, shaded and full of tiny fun bars and restaurants, Nai Yang remains relatively unknown like most of the northern beaches of Phuket because they are not along the main road. The Slate and the new Phuket Marriott Nai Yang Resort are the only hotels next to the beach. Dewa Hotel is not far, but you would have to walk a bit to reach the beach.

Laem Hin Seafood is one of the best known local seafood restaurants in Phuket. Located on the east coast of the island, Laem Hin is vast but still manages to get full for dinner and even more on weekends. The setting above the water is enjoyable but it’s not what we would call a romantic restaurant, it’s a little too busy for that. However, if you can arrive around 6 pm, you will find the place pleasantly quiet and breezy.

Laem Hin Seafood is one of the best known local seafood restaurants in Phuket. Located on the east coast of the island, Laem Hin is vast but still manages to get full for dinner and even more on weekends. The setting above the water is enjoyable but it’s not what we would call a romantic restaurant, it’s a little too busy for that. However, if you can arrive around 6 pm, you will find the place pleasantly quiet and breezy.
Kalim Rimlay (20 min ride)
alim Rim Lay Restaurant is a little known local restaurant serving good honest Thai food and seafood at a reasonable price. Best of all for some of you, it is not far from Patong Beach (Past Kalim Beach). Rim Lay is a very relaxing spot to enjoy a lunch or a dinner with spectacular sunsets. Real local Thai restaurants around Patong are no easy to find but the food at Rim Lay is genuinely Thai, and some dishes are spicy. Rim Lay has a fantastic setting with seaside, sunsets and bamboo huts. Those tiny bamboo huts have part of Phuket local as long as I remember Phuket. Comfort is a minimal but who cares! You travelled all the way to Thailand, and this is what Thailand is really like.

Say ‘Pi-Set’ for a larger bowl, and ‘Sai Khai’ to top the noodle with an egg. ‘Laad Naa’ is the fried noodle in a slimy sauce. ‘Moo Satay’ (Pork Satay) are sold by stick, but people usually order by 10 (‘Sib Mai’ is ten sticks).
