After 20 years living in Edinburgh, this is the shortlist of my favourite places to go and things to do.
Hot Yoga (Bikram) and Inferno Hot Pilates classes at a wonderfully welcoming studio just around the corner. 2 - 3 classes per day, open 365 days per year.
Drop ins welcome or visitor week unlimited pass for only £35. Mat and towel hire available.
Please note that over Christmas and New Year the regular schedule on the website may change so pop your head in and check the times on the blackboard.

Breathtaking views from the top but you can still have a nice gentle walk or jog around the outside if you don't fancy a climb (approx 5km loop). Holyrood Park is great on a nice day to soak up the sun, have a BBQ or throw a frisbee and only 10 mins walk away.

Arthur's Seat
Breathtaking views from the top but you can still have a nice gentle walk or jog around the outside if you don't fancy a climb (approx 5km loop). Holyrood Park is great on a nice day to soak up the sun, have a BBQ or throw a frisbee and only 10 mins walk away.
One of the best gardens in the UK and worth a visit even if you aren't a gardener as it is a lovely place for a picnic or to read a book. Free entry. Not open late in the evening unless for a special event.

Do all or part of this lovely 12 3/4 miles walk / cycle route. The walk from the Botanics to the Scottish Gallery of Modern Art via Dean Village is a good section to start with and makes a nice day out.

Best curry in Edinburgh although it is not fancy inside. Basic decor but good service, excellent food and amazing value. BYOB. Deliveries can be very slow so you are best to sit in or pick up.

THE best off-licence in Edinburgh. Knowledgeable staff and great selection. They sometimes have tastings on if you are wandering past of an afternoon and don't have anything important to do later that evening...

Neighborhoods
Leith Market is on every Saturday 10am to 4pm at Dock Place. If nothing takes your fancy then Teuchters right next door does very good food and has the best outdoor seating on a sunny day (that also catches the sun well into the evening too so you might not want to move!).
