Exploring Salem

Sightseeing

Salem is a city on the north coast of Massachusetts. It's famous for its 1692 witch trials, during which several locals were executed for allegedly practicing witchcraft. Landmarks from this episode include the Witch House, the former home of a trial judge. It has become a hub of culture including various restaurants, museums, tours, shops and beautiful views!

Food scene

The food is amazing, reasonably priced, and a very funky atmosphere. I recommend the Land of Smiles ramen and pork buns!

This place gets really busy so if you're going at prime time you may have to wait with a margarita at the bar!

Rockefellas has much to offer. They have great food but also often have live music! In the summer, when the weather is nice, there is outdoor seating on the patio!

Getting to Salem

You can get to downtown Salem a couple ways but which way you choose could be impacted by what time of year you visit! If you are visiting in OCTOBER (prime Halloween season starts as early as late September bu traffic increases as the holiday gets closer): 1. My home is about a 20 minute drive from downtown Salem given the increased tourist traffic this time of year. There are many parking garages and lots to park in once you get into the area. The prices vary. 2. Uber and Lyft are available, as well. 3. For your own convenience I always like to suggest the commuter rail as its seems cheaper than uber this time of year. I live 5 minutes (driving) from two train stations in either direction. They both have a parking lot. The train ride is about 15 minutes to the Salem stop from North Beverly stop or about 20 minutes from the Hamilton Station. Once you arrive in Salem, the train stop is right downtown and you can easily walk to all the major tours, shows, restaurants and sites.
