Long Island City is one of the fastest growing neighborhoods in New York City and home for a new breed of skyscrapers. The Queens Borough Plaza transportation hub in Long Island City has all the travel time savings for urban explorers. It takes 15 mins to midtown (7 train) and 30 mins to any lower Manhattan place on east (4,5,6 train), central (M, N, R train) and west side (E train). You can also access fast growing Brooklyn neighborhoods, such as Greenpoint and Williamsburg within 20 mins (G train) and downtown Brooklyn within 35 min (G train as well). There are tons of waterfront activities both in Long Island City and in aforementioned Brooklyn neighborhoods. There are a few restaurants I recommend just footsteps away around Queens Borough Plaza. Many more in Long Island City at large, one or two subway stops away.

Need a membership card to get in Costco but you can buy hotdogs, pizzas and cold yogurt drink at their food court without it. The trick is that later you can also ask to go into Costco to take a look without a membership (you just cannot check out at the cashier's).
