Cycling

Cycling is a major feature of this area with numerous safe cycle paths for you to enjoy going in all directions.
The lake is wonderful for swimming. Occasionally there is fortifying tree pollen on the surface which is yellow colour. This not harmful. The temperature is ideal for a relaxing dip and safe for all ages and abilities.

Sunrise cafe is a quiet and beautiful 15 minute walk South along Lake. It has good food and is in a stunning beachside location. Another favourite is the sister Sunset Cafe on the beach in Lacanau Ocean.

Professional review

Review Chez Spring Au Bord du Lac, Lacanau, near Bordeaux Relax and be close to nature at this magical French retreat with a tree house feel and vast balcony with lake views. Sunbathe or BBQ on the wooden decking watching the swallows swoop above or head to the garden below to play pétanque or ping pong. It's just a minutes walk to the fresh water lake where you can kite surf, kayak or SUP or cycle or jog round the shoreline under the cool shade of pine trees taking impromptu dips to cool off in the company of swans. A 10-minute drive brings you to the rolling Atlantic surf and vast sandy beaches with chic surf schools and shops, with golf, tennis and equestrian centres aplenty. The house has two airy doubles on the upper main floor with a well-equipped open-plan kitchen, comfy couches, and natural furnishings with lamps made from gnarled tree trunks and floor-to-ceiling windows that let in cool lake breezes. Take the spiral staircase downstairs to discover a cool, den-like atmosphere with nooks and crannies to fit friends and family. The British owners welcome dogs and while the beaches are a no-go dog zone in summer, the lake is dog friendly on and off lead and while best in summer, the house has a log burner for those who want to visit in winter and enjoy the natural beauty whatever the weather.
