This island is one of the islands in Oslo fjord that is accessible with a public transportation card. I recommend having a 24hour card or 7day card to visit any of these islands.
During summer it can be nice to take the public ferry out to one of the island in the Oslo fjord. But be warned that this island is very popular during our holiday time and you can expect a long line to get onto the boat. Both going out onto the island but also on the way back again. So plan good time, if you decide to go here at the most populare time. There are several island and posibilities here. But Hovedøya is one of the most populare places to go for beach experience and barbeque. Locals go here during their free-time. There is also old ruins of a monestary (Hovedøya kloster) here that can be nice to have a look at.

This island is mostly poluare for its nature and beach. You should probably know that at the other side of the island there is an area for nudist. But even if this is not your thing, the rest of the island can be a nice experience. During summertime you can find one cafe at this island. Where they sell beverages and some food. If you go up to one of the top points at this islands you can get a nice view of the fjord and a different perspective Oslo city. The best view is probably from the top close to the white lighthouse (which looks like a church close to the water)

This island is mostly poluare for its nature and beach. You should probably know that at the other side of the island there is an area for nudist. But even if this is not your thing, the rest of the island can be a nice experience. During summertime you can find one cafe at this island. Where they sell beverages and some food. If you go up to one of the top points at this islands you can get a nice view of the fjord and a different perspective Oslo city. The best view is probably from the top close to the white lighthouse (which looks like a church close to the water)

This is the city hipster area. Here you can find lots of cafes, bars and parks to hang out in. Both at daytime and nighttime. From my location this is located at the opposite part of the city center, but it is very easy to get there by public transport. You can either take tram 11 or 12 (any direction) from Majorstuen to for example Olav Ryes Plass (tram station at Grünerløkka) or take the metro down to Jernbanetorget (Oslo S) and change to more options with the tram there. Taking the tram can be a nice way of sightseing the city while travellig from one place to the other.

This is the city hipster area. Here you can find lots of cafes, bars and parks to hang out in. Both at daytime and nighttime. On Sundays this is a very popular attraction. With the Frank Znort Quartet playing every Sunday, like they have done for more than 20years! I recommend being there at 20:45 for the main event indoor. It goes on for some time. Unless you are able to be there at 16:30 when they play outside for a short 30min or so.. After midnight its more of a club until 03:00.
