In my opinion the best restaurant in Canmore for lunch and dinner. Extraordinary food and a great wine list. It is pricey, but lunch is a great way to try their amazing food without breaking the bank. And a secret tip is the afternoon happy hour menu from 3-5pm!

A local's favourite and the best breakfast in town. The huevos rancheros are to die for! This place is a 10 minute walk from the apartment, and away from the more touristy areas, so you get a real sense of how the locals live. It is very busy, so early is better. Line ups are common, but it turns people over fairly quickly. There's a great outdoor patio for the warmer months.

If you like a sports bar with ambience, you'll love this pub! Think wood cabin, with a great selection of beer that changes regularly. I'm a fan of the appetizer menu, the dry ribs are awesome! The outdoor patio is great for views and people watching. Tuesday night steak night is amazing value.

By far the best pizza in town! Only a ten minute walk uphill from Falcon Crest, and hidden away in Canmore suburbia, you can eat in at Red Rock, or call them and have your pizza delivered. Their pizzas include the classics, but also some different offerings. My fave is the True North!

An eclectic menu made to share, wonderful outdoor space with amazing views, make this a great place to visit. The Crack Fries are so-named because they are addictive! Blake is right outside Grande Rockies Resort, and has an incredible patio in the summer. It is a 5 minute walk from most of our accommodations in Canmore.

If you are fussy about your coffee, this is the best place to visit! My personal favourite is the flat white, but everything is great here. They also have a great lunch menu (including meat pies for all the Aussies and Kiwi's out there!). This is the coffee we stock in all our units, for the very good reason that it is the best in town.

The Stirling Grill and Lounge is located in the 5* Malcolm Hotel in Spring Creek Mountain Village in downtown Canmore. It is a short 5-10 minute walk from the main accommodation area (Falcon Crest Lodge, Blackstone Mountain Lodge, etc.). A casual bar with TV's showing all your favourite sports, the service is pretty good and the burger is absolutely fabulous. In my opinion it's the best in town, and great value. The nacho's also look fantastic, although I haven't tried them yet, as did many of the items on the menu I saw last time I was there (Oct 2019). Happy hour from 3-7pm daily offers excellent value, with good quality house wines as well.

The best patio in town! Huge patio with panoramic views of the Three Sisters and the entire north-facing mountains that sit over Canmore. A good selection of beer and wine, and the food is pretty good too. I recommend the appetizers for sure, have found the main meals a little hit and miss. Worth it for the view though, whether inside during winter or outside on the patio in summer.

A lovely introduction to hiking in Canmore that suits all abilities. Only a few minutes out of town, and a relatively short hike that rewards you with two beautiful blue lakes and an amazing view of the Bow Valley. And if you like rock climbing (either to watch or participate) there's tonnes on the go at Grassi Lakes. This is a popular trail so if you seek peace and quiet, it's probably a little busy for you. But it's a great walk nevertheless, and a great way to acclimatize yourself to our altitude without too much exertion.

Awesome downhill skiing in winter, with the longest season in Canada. And just as beautiful to hike in summer, especially during wildflower season. If you are here for a couple of weeks skiing you might consider buying the Sunshine card (before December 25, buy from Safeway or SaveOn) to take advantage of 3 free days and discounts on your other days. Sunshine carpark fills up quickly, and it's a long walk from the back of the carpark (or worse, from up the road). There is a free bus from Banff this year (2017), with connections to/from Canmore - definitely worth considering as it drops you off at the gondola on the way up, and you can enjoy some apres ski in Banff on the way home.

This is a great, easy mountain bike trail that starts from the Spray Valley (10 minutes drive from Canmore) and finishes at the Banff Springs hotel. 17km long, it is double track all the way, making it relatively easy for a less experienced mountain biker. End your trip with a cocktail at the Banff Springs or Park Distillery, then put your bike on the Roam transit bus and travel back to Canmore in style. Or you can utilize the services of one of the many bike transfer companies in town (they'll take you to the start of the trail, and pick you up in Banff), or if you feel fit, bike back to Canmore via the Legacy Trail. Time your trip on the bus for the morning if you can, it gets very busy!

If you are looking for a tougher hike in town than Grassi Lakes, you may enjoy this one. Grab a coffee from Summit Cafe, and head up the hill for a steep climb to the top of the tree line (there's an old helipad to sit on) or right to the top of the mountain. Bear spray is a necessity. It's a solid 2 hours to the top, rewarded by great views of Canmore and the Bow Valley, and all within town limits.

Gas in Canmore is often overpriced. A quick 6 minute trip towards Calgary (or drop in on your way) gets you to Deadmans Flats where gas is often 10c cheaper. If you do have to buy in Canmore, go to Fas Gas or the big chains on the exit to Banff. Avoid the Esso on Railway Ave, their pricing is extortionate!

Are you a fan of disc golf? Then this is the course you are going to fall in love with! Almost a hike in itself, the scenery is amazing, and the course is challenging. You can hire discs at Trail Sports on-site, or buy them cheap downtown at Sports Experts. Don't forget to rent some bear spray at Trail Sports if you don't already have some - this is well and truly bear country. If you don't want quite such a challenging option, try the disc golf course at Three Sisters. Located on Riva Heights, it is 9 easy holes, and it's wide open. There is still wildlife up there - bears and elk are common, but it is not as risky as the Nordic Centre if you don't have bear spray.

More challenging than the downtown Canmore course, buggies are compulsory here as there's a lot of walking and hills. The views across the valley to downtown and Three Sisters are incredible.
