State College is surrounded by outstanding nature. Here are my favorites.
Only 10-15 minutes away from our house you can do an easy hike or mountain bike ride alongside the Roaring Run up into the forests of Rothrock State Forest. In May you'll be surrounded by azaleas and rhododendrons and later in June Mountain Laurel - the Pennsylvania State Forest. Follow Route PA45 to the parking lot and trailhead.

Outstanding local arboretum surrounded by easy hiking trails and wide open views. Excellent children's garden and inspirational selection of plants. Can be visited at all times of the year. A welcome nature area located at the edge of Penn State.
