In the heart of downtown Silver Spring, Copper Canyon serves rich home style American food and fabulous desserts that are really too large to be eaten by one person! The cost is higher but it's definitely a treat.

Georgetown Cupcakes is famous for its delicious, beautifully decorated cupcakes in a wide variety of flavors! And of course the bakery is located in historic Georgetown, which is a major tourist attraction.
Here's a description from the Washington, DC Neighborhood Guide by Rachel Cooper: "Georgetown, one of the oldest neighborhoods in Washington, DC, served as a major port and commercial center during colonial times because of its prime location on the Potomac River. Today, it is a vibrant community with upscale shops, bars and restaurants along its cobblestone streets. Many of the homes along the tree-lined streets are 200 year-old restored row houses with beautiful gardens."

A variety of shops, two movie theaters, a concert venue, and scores of restaurants, all within walking distance. Parking in the Wayne Ave.garage is very inexpensive. Downtown Silver Spring is walking distance to the Silver Spring Metro subway station.

The famous National Mall is easily accessible via the Metro Subway from Silver Spring. On one end is the Capitol Building, and on the other is the Lincoln Memorial and the Reflecting Pool. The mall offers access to scores of free Smithsonian museums and impressive national monuments, all within walking distance. However, if you get tired of walking you can take the DC Circulator bus, which will let you get on and off at any point along the route for only $1.
