Food Scene

It's a bit far away but if you're a sushi fan it's worth the trip. Arguably the best in all of Prague - this place is a local's secret.

If you want to order pizza to the apartment, check out Fortys Pizza (now www.telepizza.cz) and try the cream sauce base. It's closeby so it normally doesn't take too long and you can pay on delivery

Drinks & Nightlife

Every night I've been in Vzorkovna has been a great night. Best to go Thurs - Fri and only if you like live music. Sometimes heavy (not often) mostly covers and traveling bands passing through Prague. Has a spontaneous vibe with the occasional impromptu jamming session in the back room with the piano. Worth queuing to get in and don't be weirded out by the 'pre-pay chip' system or grump doorman. Look out for the bar mascot.

Don't go to Karlovo Lasne! Instead take the 17 Tram, or 2 Metros (yellow line > red line), or a 15 min Uber to the north side of the river and you'll find the one of a kind Cross Club. Its huge interior is decorate in a carnival steam-punk mashup and usually has late night parties at the weekend. Attracts an open minded and friendly crowd. Check their official website for details.

Situated in the Dlouha 'party district' between a number of more mainstream commercial clubs, at James Dean you'll music that you won't hear anywhere else! Hits from the 50s, 60s, with a splash of 70s, 80s, Beatles, Kinks, Supremes, Softcell, Mamas and Papas, The Monkees, Stevie Wonder, Hendrix, James Brown, Pink Floyd, The Who, and more of the greats! It normally has a good blend of Czech locals and tourists but drinks are priced for tourists' tastes (normally Kc100+). Upstairs there's an American style diner but downstairs is where the partying happens.

Sightseeing

Vysehrad is a place I recommend to all friends and guests who come to visit. It's off the usual tourist circuit but only a 15-20 min walk from our apartment (you can also take a tram 1-2 stops from Palackeho Namestí). Vysehrad is an historic Slavic fortress built around the 10th C. It sits on a hill over the Vlatava River and boasts stunning panoramic views of the city which are beautiful whatever the weather. There is an open space park in the centre with impressive statues, a cemetery with ornate monument commemorating the lives of famous Czechs, and a small delicately decorated cathedral. There is a café or two in the grounds,it's well worth the walk if you have some hours to kill.

There are a few reasons to take the trip to Petrín Tower, the Eiffel Tower replica which stands overlooking the city and castle on the east side of the river. Czech's boast that since their tower was built higher above sea level, Petrín Tower is higher than its cousin in Paris. Don't worry, you don't have to climb to the top of the hill. Simply make your way to Újezd (Czech pronunciation: [ˈuːjɛst]) and take a cable car! After 15 mins (1 stop on Metro to Narodní Trída - then 2 more stops on either trams 9 or 22) you can watch the city of Prague open up before your eyes. Normal metro/tram tickets work for the cable car.

Parks & Nature

A favourite spot among locals to enjoy quiet evenings watching the sunset over Prague. A couple of bars and restaurants, movies and sports often show on big screen. Great place for a jog, a stroll, a picnic, evening drinks, or relaxing.

Getting Around

Uber works really well in Prague and is cheaper than taxis. If you haven't used the app before I'd suggest you download it. Use invite code kevf151ue to get discount on your journey.

The location on the map is incorrect - there is a closer entrance at Palackeho Namesti which you can use to enter Karlovo Namesti metro station. Tickets can be purchased in the machines in the station or in the small shop on the right just before you need to validate your tickets. Czechs check! So always have a valid ticket. Kc24 = 90 mins of travel (€1)

Essentials

Less than 2 mins around the corner you'll find the corner shop we use for day to day essentials, but you'll find pretty much anything you need here from toiletries, to bread, to beer, fruit, frozen meals, and chocolate.
