This is the closest park to the house. It has good hiking trails around the pond and along the creek, a small museum space, and the mill has tours on some weekends. You can fish if you have a license. Pets are not allowed here so you should not encounter dogs.

Close and a good size lake to boat, fish, swim, picnic.
This park is connected the Raleigh Greenway system and has a paved trail going all around the east side of the lake. There are paddle boats, canoes, and kayaks to rent, fishing, feed the ducks, and picnic tables. This park can be very busy at times.

4601 Avent Ferry RdThis park is connected the Raleigh Greenway system and has a paved trail going all around the east side of the lake. There are paddle boats, canoes, and kayaks to rent, fishing, feed the ducks, and picnic tables. This park can be very busy at times.
This is a very large state park with two major entrances. You can hike all day, boat on a lake, or picnic. Some trails are used for horseback riding and trail bike riding.
