Malham Cove

Malham Cove is one of the most spectacular places in the Yorkshire Dales National Park. Nearby is Gordale Scar and Janet’s Foss (waterfall). There is a lovely 5 mile circular walk taking in all three. It is not particularly difficult and good walking shoes are adequate. If it is wet, then some areas may be a bit slippery. It is about 17 miles away. There is a good bus service from Skipton bus station in summer. If driving, I recommend returning a different route for more spectacular scenery. Drive out of Malham towards Malham Tarn. This will lead onto the village of Arncliffe ( the original Emmerdale Farm pub is here ). You will head back to Skipton along the Wharfe valley passing Kilnsey Crag.

Lovely village with a variety of shops, pubs and eateries. Nearby, Linton Falls and the ancient Linton Church are worth a visit.

Barden Tower

Barden is only a few miles away on the river Wharfe, upstream from Bolton Abbey. You can park on the roadside and walk around the outside of the ruins ( no charge). There is a nice river walk by Barden Bridge where there is parking.

Castle Woods

For a tranquil and enjoyable walk any time of year. If walking into town, easy to make a 20 minute detour via the woods, Joining through the signed gate at the top of the Bailey you will pass behind the castle and arrive at Mill bridge next to the High Street
