Excellent pub food and atmosphere, the Red Lion in Freshwater, is long standing popular favourite with locals and visitors alike. Great back garden too, so outside dining in the warmer months highly recommended. Just an 8 minute walk from The Bay Cabin. Book during summer.

The Highdown Inn is walkable from The Bay Cabin ( a good 15 minutes uphill) or a few minutes drive away. Situated at the bottom of Tennyson Down, the outdoor garden offers sensational rural views. Inside the pub is full of atmosphere and old world charm. Great good. Recommended to book.

The Highdown Inn is walkable from The Bay Cabin ( a good 15 minutes uphill) or a few minutes drive away. Situated at the bottom of Tennyson Down, the outdoor garden offers sensational rural views. Inside the pub is full of atmosphere and old world charm. Great good. Recommended to book.

Outdoor seating perched high above the sea below caters for up to 60 - with some of the best food the Island has to offer by a talented young chef and protege of Raymond Blanc. Neighbourhoods

Freshwater Bay in West Wight, is home to one of Island’s best beaches, part sandy and stony, situated at the foot of The Tennyson Trail. Perfect for beach goers, kayakers and paddle boarders to hikers and cyclists. The Bay is under a 10 minute walk from The Bay Cabin. A few hundreds yards away from the cabin is Orchards General Store where you can buy anything from rare cheeses and meats to fine wines and ales. Just opposite is The Piano Cafe, a great eaterie where you can munch happily away from breakfast to dinner while taking in the spectacular downs views. Lord Tennyson, the poet laureate resided in Freshwater Bay taking daily walks over the downs. His former home, Farringford House was recently renovated in exquisite detail, where you can take guided tours. Dimbola Lodge the former home to the Victoria photographer, Julia Margaret Cameron is also situated down towards the bay.

Totland Bay has a Mediterranean feel to it, nicely sheltered in its own cocoon of a bay. In summer, boats moor up and bob about in the water. Beautiful sandy beaches, and The Waterfront Pub right on the promenade for great food, drinks and atmosphere. Just a 10 minute drive from The Bay Cabin.

Getting Around

If you arrive by foot, you can hire a car rental from Enterprise Cars in Newport, accessible via bus or private taxi. You can also hire bicycles from Yarmouth from Wight Cycle Hire in Yarmouth. The Bay Cabin also has access to a electric charging point for those travelling by electric car.
