This gulf is our favorite place in Sardinia. Rent a boat in Cala Gonone. Best beaches where to stop: Cala Goloritze, Cala Luna, Cala Mariolu, Cala Sisine. If you are tired of the sun, visit the Griotta del Bue Marino (It was the last island refuge of the rare monk seal (‘bue marino’ or ‘sea ox’ as it was known by local fishers). Castelsardo is a small town, a romantic medieval hamlet, was founded by the people of Genoa in 1102. It boasts a small beach and a delicacy: the “Castellanese-style lobster”. The name of the town means “Sardinian castle”.

The Giara, located in the center-east of Sardinia, hosts a rare herd existing in Italy and in Europe of little wild horses and a park with cork oaks forests and Mediterranean maquis. This area is well known also for its archaeological monuments such as the famous Barumini nuraghe, so called “Su Nuraxi” declared Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity. The nuraghes are defensive towers to be found throughout the island, marked by their truncated cone shape and built with great blocks of roughly hewn stone, using the dry-stone technique. If you want to come here, we recommend to come early - the beach is not very large but it has beautiful views - there are 2 bars, one of which very healthy :)
