Park
“This thermal park has great walks and mountain bike tracks as well as the natural hot pools. The pools have recently been upgraded and there are lockers available as well as a container type cafe available. Do use the lockers provided as this area is a spot where lots of things have been reported stolen. This is a cool little spot to experience the natural hot water pools.”

“Across the road is the walking path into the Botanical gardens, if you follow the path to the top of the hill then turn right when you hit the sealed road. ( 10-15 min walk) Walk along the road past the seat and about 1 min later you will see the path on your right which meanders through the fern gardens.( 10-15 min) All the paths are good quality and all weather. At the end you can either turn left back into the gardens, turn right and walk back down beside Shepherd Rd or turn around and walk back the way you came. If at any point you get lost there is a loop road which will take you back to Shepherd rd ( full walk around the road would be approx 30mins) To bike around the gardens come out of our driveway and turn right. Pedal up the hill and the entrance to the gardens is on the corner on your left. Bike up the driveway up and follow road signs. ( 10 min approx.) There is a wonderful view of the lake at the first seat and spectacular views of the mountains from the second seat and the memorial park has beautiful old trees and picnic tables. ”

“A short, steep, winding trail up through the bush to the top of Mt Tauhara. Fabulous views and well worth the hike. Good footwear and level of fitness required! This will take you less than 2 hours to stroll to the top”

“To bike to the lake turn left out of our driveway and head down Shepherd rd. Turn left and at the end of “Manuel’s” hotel, you will link into the path around the lake. If you go left you will ride past the “Two mile yacht club” which serves coffee and muffins or pizza’s and a full bar. If you continue past the yacht club the path joins the “Lions Walk”. This path is fully sealed and has breath taking views all along the lake front and of the mountains. You can bike along here for a decent ride approx. 30mins. If you wish to bike towards town at the end of Shepherd rd turn left and at the end of “Manuel’s” hotel turn right to link into the path. You will bike past Wholesome café which has super views of the lake and mountains and serves great breakfast or lunch. It has a small sign out on the path saying “are you thirsty” You will bike past the beaches which have thermal springs and as you get nearer to town the springs get hotter. To bike to town takes approx 15 mins. ”

Trail
“Park your car at the Rangatira Point Track. It is an easy walk that winds through native bush along the lake edge to Whakamoenga Point, offering fantastic views and great picnic, swimming and fishing spots. My favourite spot for a sundowner and a little picnic.”
