“There are many Native American and pioneer artifacts in the museum but the real highlight for lighthouse aficionado's is the first order Fresnel lens which was removed from St. Georges lighthouse in 1983. The St. Georges lighthouse was built 6 miles off the coast in response to the Brother Jonathan shipwreck which occurred in 1865 taking over 200 souls. Visitors can marvel at the Fresnel lens up close and personal. ”

If you have a vehicle, the headlands on the Marin County side (North) of the Bridge have amazing views from Vista Points of the Bridge and San Francisco!”

“Obviously, no trip to the Bay Area is complete without a visit to The Golden Gate Bridge. I suggest pulling off at the last exit before crossing and driving up the Headlands for an amazing view and cruise along the shoreline. ”

“You can take the easy trail -- Todd Creek and get in and out of there in 1.5 miles. Access that trail over by the Porta Potties. Look for the sign just past the water reservoir. You'll wind through some Oaks and come out through an open meadow. A very slight incline. If you want to get some real exercise, do the loop. It's maybe a little over 2 miles but it has some serious incline or decline depending on your approach. The hilly part can get seriously muddy when the weather is inclement. The views are nice from the harder trail.”

“Alcatraz was the site of the first lighthouse in the Western United States but became a federal penitentiary from 1934-1963, housing famous convicts such as Al Capone and George "Machine Gun" Kelly. Now, this once infamous prison island is part of the Bay Area’s 80,000-acre Golden Gate National Recreation Area. Located one-and-a-half miles from Fisherman's Wharf, Alcatraz is one of the city's most popular attractions. A visit to the island includes a tour of the cell house where visitors can see where the prisoners lived. Although the last inmates were transferred off the island in 1963, the main prison block with its steel bars, claustrophobic (9 x 5-foot) cells, mess hall, library and "dark holes," where recalcitrant languished in inky blackness, is still structurally intact.”
