The valley is part of the World Heritage Site for Mining. You can walk from Latchley through Duchy of Cornwall woodlands up river along the Tamar to Luckett and Horsebridge. Or down river to Gunnislake and beyond.

Be the first to stay in this beautiful wing of this former village church, tastefully decorated and equipped with everything you’d need to relax in this rural peaceful corner of Devon. Soak in your own private hot tub, or chill out on the raised decking area watching the sheep graze and the sun set, whilst listening to your favourite music on the outdoor speakers connected to Sonos. Play it as loud as you like, there's no neighbours for 1km in any direction!
Up to 4 guests can have the exclusive use of 5 rooms - accessed via your own personal door to the rear of the church. This area leads straight onto the decked walkway with access to the hot tub. The spacious Master Bedroom with a king size luxury bed and 42" LED TV and Sonos dock. The Snug - consisting of 2 versatile singles, that can be made up as a double or 2 singles, with a study area to the other end. The Ante Room - all rooms lead of this, and it's a perfect space to sit and read a book. The Kitchenette - all the things you'd need to prepare a basic meal, including a fridge freezer and washing machine. The Shower Room - A double power shower and generous sized bathroom. All rooms have a good wifi connection / Ethernet ports.
A stunning area of outstanding natural beauty (AONB!) with amazing views for miles around - you cannot see another house from this location, so make as much noise as you like! There is guest parking for 2 cars, and the local village pub is 1 mile stroll away. A convenience store is 2 miles away, and for larger supermarkets and restaurants there is the market towns of Tavistock or Callington just 5 miles away. We are slap bang between the 2, just 1 mile into Devon from the river Tamar.

  • Fantastyczne odosobnione ustawienie na środku pól. Urocza posiadłość z piękną, czystą i ciepłą wanną z hydromasażem na świeżym powietrzu w ogrodzie. 15 minut spacerem do wspaniałego rustykalnego pubu.

Covid -19 Due to the government advice against non-essential travel and advocating social distancing to stop the unnecessary spread of Covid 19 The Count House is now closed. I am contacting present bookings as the advice changes. Stay Safe! Claire The Count House was once a Mine office, now it is a light filled holiday cottage. Set on a wooded hillside with stunning views over the River Tamar. The private garden steeps you in nature with deer, swallows and brimstones all regular visitors.

Przyniosła nam świeże jajka i dzikie kwiaty do salonu, takie słodkie! Hans i Rosalien

  • Piękna lokalizacja, cudownie cicho. Domek ma wszystkie potrzebne udogodnienia i więcej. Ogród nie jest ogrodzony, jeśli zabierasz psa. Doskonała lokalizacja do wielu uroczych miejsc do odwiedzenia i chodzenia. Pokochałem to.

    Sally2018-06-29T00:00:00Z
  • Piękny, spokojny domek letniskowy w pobliżu niesamowitego wybrzeża, pubów i widoków. Pojechaliśmy do Kit Hill - wspaniałego miejsca na spacery z psami, a także pięknych widoków, mieliśmy dobry lunch w The Who Would Have It It Inn , St Dominick.

    Anna2018-05-31T00:00:00Z
  • Bardzo uzdrawiające, niesamowita przestrzeń i widoki. Piękne otoczenie i domek. Na pewno wrócimy ponownie. Dziękuję Claire.

    Kamala2018-05-03T00:00:00Z

    Michelle2018-04-16T00:00:00Z
  • Po prostu oszałamiające. Zakwaterowanie było wspaniałe, absolutnie wszystko, czego potrzebujesz. Idealni gospodarze.

    Elli2018-04-06T00:00:00Z

Warm and cosy single storey detached barn conversion in the grounds of 18th century, Grade 2 listed former Mill. Set in peaceful West Devon countryside this beautiful, self catering cottage, sleeping 2 is the perfect rural hideaway, yet central for exploring. There are beautiful views of the surrounding countryside, wonderful walks and an amazing range of bird life right outside your window.
Beautifully converted from a former shippon, Miller's Rest, is a comfortable holiday home, ideal for a relaxing break. Unlike a traditional B and B, when you have to vacate the premises after breakfast, the entire cottage and all its facilities are yours to use, and come and go as you please, for the entire length of your stay. The open plan living-room has a reclining sofa so you can put your feet up and watch TV, a DVD or listen to the radio or some CDs, a well designed kitchen with electric oven and hob, fridge and microwave and dining area with table and chairs. We must point out however that there is no wi fi available in the cottage. If this is important to you, there are several coffee shops in Tavistock where you can use it. The spacious bedroom has a super-king sized bed and wonderful views out to the gardens and Brentor church beyond. The shower room has a WC and wash basin as well as a walk in shower. Electric heaters in both the rooms should the evenings be chilly and there is parking right outside the front door so is ideal for people with limited mobility. There is a BBQ and outdoor furniture in the pretty, private cottage garden.
There are several National Trust houses in the area, Buckland Abbey, the former home of Sir Francis Drake, and Cothele in particular is a real favourite with its stunning gardens rolling down to the River Tamar and walks through the woods to the Cornish riverside village of Calstock. There is wonderful walking and riding on nearby Dartmoor and the National Cycle Route 27 is easily accessible. Just over half an hour in the car and you can be on either the North or South Coast so we really are central for all your explorations!

Quither, Tavistock, , Devon, Wielka Brytania

Built in 2017 in a large garden with uninterrupted views, from both the cabin and decking, of the River Tamar. Ideal retreat for artists, writers, walkers and nature lovers. The garden is unsuitable for children as it is steep, well behaved dogs welcome provided they don't launch themselves into the river as the only access is by a ladder. There is strictly no fishing. Just enjoy a natural habitat, which is plentiful. You might see kingfishers, otters, cormorants, leaping fish, hope so!
The Ottery was originally built as an artist studio, but I decided the view was so beautiful I wanted to share it with other nature and peace lovers. It was completed in April 2017 and is situated at the end of my garden. It has wooden floors in the living areas and tile in the bathroom. It has decking on 2 sides with a table and chairs to enjoy nature. In the winter it is cosy but, it is a cabin, and does not have double glazing but gets warm quickly when the fire is lit, for which kiln dried wood is provided. Warmth can be maintained with an oil filled radiator, this to me is part of the romance of staying in a cabin in the winter. There is a condensation issue in the winter as it is warmer inside the building than out, but a handy tool and kitchen roll is provided so that the view is not obscured. The cabin has far reaching views up the river and is situated close to an ancient monument, Newbridge which is a 16th Century bridge. There are 4 fantastic walks available by walking out of the front door, no need to use the car! When the river is being lazy you can swim from the garden, but you need to ask me first please so I can judge if it is safe as the currents can be deceptive. It is close to Dartmoor and about 30 mins drive to the coast. It has no wifi or TV, but I have provided basic artist materials (please bring your own paper), board games, jigsaws and books and magazines. Mobile service is excellent for Vodafone and 02, but for other networks you might have to go on the roof to get a signal! If you need to contact someone, provided it is in the UK you are welcome to use my landline.
Gunnislake is a working village with 4 pubs, a post office, general stores, an excellent butchers and a hardware and gift shop. It is situated about 200 meters from the cabin, but up a very steep hill (good exercise) there is free parking for 2 hours in the village. Gunni has a train station and a regular bus service. The nearest town, Tavistock is 5 miles away and is a market town. Plymouth is the nearest city by car it takes about 30 mins and is also accessible by a scenic train journey or by bus. There are restaurants close by and food round here is excellent. There are no nightclubs! Villagers tend to be very friendly, and helpful.

My place is close to the Cornwall-Devon border not far from the beaches and Dartmoor. You’ll love my place because of the views, the open plan living space, the location. My place is good for couples, solo adventurers, holiday makers, families (with kids), and furry friends (pets).
What makes my place so good is the price. It comes in at less than half the price of other similar holiday cottages. There are no extra cleaning costs. All I ask is you leave the place as you would like to find it.
There is a restaurant and bar on site as well as a games room for guest use. A good pub is a 10 minute walk away. There is no private garden but directly outside are large green spaces, a play area and tennis courts. The Donkey Park with large indoor play areas (and lots to do outside) is a short walk away.

  • Jesteśmy zadowoleni z pobytu w domu Iana.

Nearby Tavistock, is an ancient stannary and market town on the edge of Dartmoor National Park, and just across the border in Devon, has a wealth of fine pubs, restaurants, supermarkets and tourist attractions. The Tamar Orchard Barn is in one of Cornwall's Areas of Outstanding Natural Beauty and Bodmin Moor recently AWARDED rare DARK SKY status is close by to the west. This wild area reaches a height of 1,377 feet above sea level at Brown Willy, Cornwall's highest point. The heather covered granite moorland provides East Cornwall with the most stunning country views and rugged walks. Near Blisland you will find two of Cornwalls stone circles, the Trippet Stones and Stripple Stone Henge and just round the corner, one end of the famous Camel Trail. What does this have to do with our local area? The 18 mile Camel Trail follows the route of the old railway along traffic free paths, providing a fairly flat cycle through Bodmin and Wadebridge out to Padstow, eminently suitable for families. The National Lobster Hatchery at Padstow neighbours Rick Steins empire on the North Coast. The Bodmin and Wenford Railway, the first steam operated railway in Cornwall, takes in 13 miles of countryside. Also just outside Bodmin is the Camel Valley Vineyard who have been winning awards for their home grown wine for the past 20 years. The National Trust have a number of properties nearby with Cotehele House being just 3 miles away. - Lanhydrock House, Trerice, Antony (used for Disney's Alice in Wonderland), Carnewas and Bedruthan Steps. Slightly further afield is the Eden Project in St Austell. Bodmin Jail built in 1778, notorious for its public executions by hanging, was the first jail to be built housing inmates in individual cells. The Jail closed in 1927 and is now a museum open to the public, which during the First World War housed the Crown Jewels and the Doomsday Book.Dartmoor is closer to us and more popular even though it is in Devon.Dartmoor, to the east, is one of our National Parks and covers 368 square miles of Devon, from tors and moorland, to valleys with streams and waterfalls, Dartmoor is rich with Neolithic and early Bronze age hut circles and standing stones, there are dozens of walks from easy strolls to demanding hikes. The highest point is High Willhays at 2037ft above sea level with stunning views in all directions. Princetown in the centre has the renowned Dartmoor Brewery with the famous "Jale Ale" named as a reference to Dartmoor Prison. You can be on Dartmoor National park in just twenty minutes from the Tamar Orchard Barn. Our ‘local' pub the White Hart is five minutes away and has just been awarded the 2019 CAMRA Cornish Pub Of The Year, well worth a visit!

Dog/pet friendly, set in an AONB & UNESCO World Heritage Site with breathtaking, expansive views over the stunning Tamar Valley & Dartmoor National Park. Long driveway with parking outside the front door of the property, fully fenced dog safe garden adjoining farmland.
Note: I have temporarily blocked all unbooked dates until November for The Signal Box and removed The Sidings from airbnb due to Government restrictions on travel during the current coronavirus pandemic. If you are a key worker or require accommodation for a legitimate reason, please message me and I will unblock dates to accommodate. For the time being for the good of our community in Cornwall and the rest of the country please stay home to stay safe, save lives and protect the NHS. I look forward to welcoming guests again in the future. Located in the grounds of a decommissioned railway station 'The Signal Box' is set in total privacy, well away from the station house, at the end of a long driveway that runs over the site of the old station tracks. Fully fenced (dog safe) private garden, fitted kitchen, shower room & sun deck. Electric gated main entrance and driveway to the property & private parking right outside the front door of The Signal Box. The Signal Box is a unique property which would appeal to railway enthusiasts and those who enjoy exploring all that the great location has to offer. The property is set in a UNESCO World Heritage Site (The Tamar Valley) and an AONB. The space has been set up with couples and their pet(s) in mind but there is space to bring small children from baby up to toddler age (if a cot or bed is needed you will need to bring that with you). There is no restriction on children rather a restriction on families/space so, if a mother, father, grandparent, auntie or uncle etc wishes to book the space with a related child of any age, that's absolutely fine too, a couple can be an adult and a related child in their care. The original station master's house, hay barn and a replica waiting room/ticket office are all still in place together with the platform and the site of the old tracks and railway bridge. As a point of interest, during the First World War, the station was the South West's main hay storage depot, from where hay was transported to London by rail to supplement the war effort in which horses played a vital role. PLEASE NOTE THAT IF THE SIGNAL BOX IS BOOKED FOR THE DATES YOU REQUIRE, IT HAS A STUNNING BRAND NEW SISTER CALLED 'THE SIDINGS' LISTED AT THE SAME PRICE AND ALSO AVAILABLE ON AIRBNB, PLEASE TAKE A LOOK.
The property is located in an AONB and UNESCO World Heritage Site and has many interesting mines in the local area including the Devon Consuls. The surrounding area has numerous places of interest, here are a few to whet your appetite: there are many walking trails close by: Kit Hill, Duchy owned Greenscombe Woods, Luckett - walk across a ford are all just a couple of minutes away and Tamar Trails and Dartmoor National Park are a few miles away. There are many beautiful National Trust properties in Devon and Cornwall including Cotehele which is less than 2 miles away, Pentille Castle is close by and featured in the television series 'Delicious', numerous quality pubs & restaurants, Tavistock with it's famous pannier market and, for Poldark fans, Bodmin Moor is close by (15 minutes away by car) and stunning Charlestown (just 31 minutes away by car). Port Isaac, of Doc Marin fame, is just 55 minutes drive away, St Mellion International golf resort is less than 10 minutes drive away and offers two golf courses, spa and gym. We have provided many maps, guides and leaflets in the property for guests to peruse at their leisure and we are also happy to provide recommendations if required. Please take time to look at my recommendations below including local events and dog friendly places, this will be updated regularly.

Authentic character and quaint quirkiness in a charming village makes Miners Cottage a special retreat. The cottage went through an entire refurb recently and now offers a lovely log fire, lots of wall heating, crisp white cotton linen and new high quality mattresses promising to guarantee a cozy, comfortable and relaxing stay.
Typical cozy tin mine cottage, completely refurbished recently. A special retreat for weekenders and walkers. Relax in front of the log burner or take a stroll down to the lively Tamar Inn for a sumptuous meal or drink. Art galleries, live music and a cake & coffee shop bring the sleeping village to life. Calstock is also a great base from which you can explore Cornwall.
The village (and parish) of Calstock is situated on the River Tamar several miles east of Callington and 12 miles upstream from Plymouth in an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty. It is a pretty village with cottages lining the narrow streets as they climb up the steep bank of the Tamar. Calstock is dominated by the magnificent railway viaduct which was built in 1907 and is one of the last great railway viaducts. Standing at 120 feet tall with 12 sixty foot arches, the viaduct carries the Tamar Valley railway which runs from Plymouth to Gunnislake. About a mile down the Tamar is Cothele, a mediaeval/Tudor house and estate now owned by the National Trust. Built between 1485 and 1627 it is a fine example, and considered one of the least-altered houses of the period in the United Kingdom. Along with the restored working watermill, the riverside gardens and quay are well worth a visit. Whilst now-a-days Calstock is a fairly sleepy backwater it has a long history as an industrial post. In Roman times it was already settled and possibly a tin trading post and from Saxon times it was definitely a port. Calstock's heyday was in the 19th century when it was a booming mining town with a population of around 7,000. Copper, tin, tungsten and even silver were mined here and there was a granite quarry neaby. These were then all shipped downstream from the town's quay. However, with the decline in the mining industry Calstock became a sleepy riverside village with the remains of the engine houses as a reminder to its past fortunes. Although the Tamar is still navigable by small boats up to Calstock, the railway replaced it as the primary source of transport.

The lodge is located in the beautiful Tamar Valley (listed as 'area of outstanding natural beauty') within the Honicombe Manor Resort. Comprising 3 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms on the ground floor with lower deck and private hot tub. The lounge / diner and kitchen are on the first floor, with a balcony, offering lovely rural views. All rooms are coordinated and freshly decorated each year. The lodge is located at the bottom of the valley and may not be suitable for those with reduced mobility.
Ideally located to explore Devon and Cornwall. Lots of attractions nearby: The Donkey Sanctuary is just up the road, Cotehele National Trust House and River Quay are just down the road in the opposite direction. The historic town of Tavistock is about 10 miles away and is on the boundary of Dartmoor. Looe a pretty seaside town is about ten miles away. The lodge is in a perfect location to visit seaside towns on both the north and south coast and also central Cornwall and Devon. There are leaflets at the lodge covering all the tourist attractions. Please note: as we endeavour to make the lodge more eco friendly the lodge has its own water supply - the pressure can be variable. The lodge is well insulated upstairs and even when very cold it can be too hot in the living area. We ask that you turn off either one or both radiators and not open the windows. Thank you.
The site itself is relatively quiet and set in a natural environment. The bar and restaurant on site offer varied meals and drinks and are good value for money, Sunday carvery a must! Booking necessary. Kit Hill closeby, a landmark where you can see for miles on a clear day, is well worth a visit and it also has a very good restaurant - we would recommend the cream tea here and also at the quay at Cotehele. The Tamar valley is categorises as an 'area of outstanding beauty' and offers the best in Cornish natural countryside.
